M C Beaton, best known for her cosy crime novels, has carved a niche with her Agatha Raisin & Hamish Macbeth series. Now, don’t be fooled by the quaint village settings - there’s always a murder or two chucked in (with a bit of wit & charm, naturally). Beaton’s books are great if you want something light but still intriguing. They’ve got that old-school mystery vibe, but without getting bogged down in too much procedural stuff. Agatha Raisin, especially, is a bit of a loveable disaster - think Miss Marple, but with sass & more bad dates. Honestly, these are the sort of books you pick up for a quick read & then suddenly it’s 2am.
