Rising Damp is a sitcom starring Leonard Rossiter as Rupert Rigsby – a miserly landlord who rents out shabby rooms to tenants. Richard Beckinsale plays an amiable medical student, while Frances de la Tour was a whimsical spinster who Rigsby is in love with.
Four series of Rising Damp were made, between 1974 and 1978,with 28 episodes in total. A film was also made. Rising Damp was adapted for TV from a stage play by Eric Chappell, called The Banana Box.
