ntl Digital TV Background

TV ntl services were first offered to UK customers by the company in 1993 and became the first major competitor to the Sky network offering bundled ntl cable TV and telephone services via the ntl box over their high-speed fibre-optic network. 1997 saw a competitive drive by the ntl phone company to offer their TV and telephone bundle at similar costs to BT telephone costs. A year later ntl cable won the JD Power awards for the best multi-channel TV operator, the year also saw the launch of the joint ntl Telewest venture in on demand movie services - Front Row. In 2000 their ntl digital TV services hit the half a million customer mark. By August 2001 the number of digital TV customers passed the one million mark. January 2005 saw the launch of their Video on Demand service - ntl On Demand which enables digital TV customers to manage and control their TV viewing at their convenience. In total ntl have over two million cable ntl TV customers, 1.4 million digital TV customers and over 250,000 video on demand customers.
