ntl Internet Service Provider's Background

ntl have over ten years expertise in telecommunications. Starting with telephone services and digital TV they first branched out as ntl Internet service provider (ISP) in 1996 with a joint venture with the British company Virgin to develop Virgin.net. Their network continues to expand and they currently serve around three million home customers - they also have the capacity to provide ntl services to around eight million residential premises. At the turn of the century ntl Internet was launched called ntl world home. In under a year they had over 500,000 UK customers signing up to their Internet services, accessing ntl world home page and ntl web mail. A year later in 2001 the basic ntl cable modem services were offered side-by-side with the launch of ntl world broadband services. Two speeds were offered - 128Kbps and 512Kbps. Two years later all existing and new ntl broadband customers were upgraded to faster services at no extra charge whilst the company announced intentions to extend their broadband services to more customers.
