Mother care was founded in 1961 specializing in providing products and advice for women during pregnancy and their children during their first years of development. In 1984 the started opening up franchised shops overseas which now contributes to over 10% of the total Mothercare product sales. Mothercare currently employs around 5,000 employees and has over 420 stores. The year 2003/4 saw good returns for the Mothercare company with total sales figures of £446.9 million with a profit level of just under £16 million.
