Marks and Spencer Store History
The Marks and Spencer group has over 120 years of retail heritage.
The company was a partnership between Michael Marks a polish refugee
stall holder and Tom Spencer a cashier. With a head office based
at Manchester the first Marks & Spencer store was based
at Cross Arcade Leeds. It wasn't until 1926 that Marks and Spencer
became a public limited company (PLC). Built on the core values
of quality, value for money, service, innovation and trust Mark
sand Spencer do well during the war years and expand opening stores
in Southern as well as Northern England. They quickly established
a sound reputation for quality, value and corporate responsibility
becoming a household name and firm shopper favourite by the 1960's
with stores throughout the UK. With the majority of shops in England
there are currently over fifty Marks & Spencer stores
spread throughout Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Following
the success of the food division there are over 120 Marks and Spencer
specialized Simply Food stores.

In 1999 Marks & Spencer launched their online shopping
store on the Internet. There are ten departments which are available
for online browsing and shopping for home delivery. The departments

their store range online with the exception of Marks and Spencer

nightwear, shoes, socks & accessories from their different collections
(such as 'as seen in vogue'). Their home and furniture departments
offer an extensive range of soft and hard furnishings for every
room of the house, gifts include special occasions as well as items
for specific family members (including pets!). Each department includes
