B&Q Store Timeline
Founded in the late 1960's B&Q was named after the two company
partners Black and Quayle, after establishing the firm its success
contributed to the company's acquisition by the large Kingfisher
group in the early 1980's. With the financial backing of the Kingfisher
group B&Q grew from strength to strength expanding both the
number of BQ store and their product range. By the mid
1980's the number of BQ DIY stores numbered over 150. 1995
saw the first opening of the B&Q warehouse format in Aberdeen.
There are now over four hundred stores. Over 50 of these are overseas
but the remainder are a mix of superstore centre's and warehouses.
