B&Q DIY UK online store from the country's market leader
in DIY and garden retail.
B&Q DIY Stores Financial Background
B&Q DIY Stores were the result of a partnership between
two British entrepreneurs Block & Quayle. In ten years of
opening their first B&Q store they had over twenty three other
outlets offering a wide range of home improvement goods for sale
to both trade specialists and the general public. In the 1980's
the B&Q brand was bought by Woolworths Plc. By the mid 1980's
the whole Woolworths group had been acquired by the Kingfisher
group (previously Paternoster). The remainder of the 1980's and
the 1990's saw the rise in DIY and the company's growth rose in
line with this increasingly popular retail market. In the mid
1990's the first B&Q DIY warehouse opened in the UK
marking the move from Depot design to massive retail space offering
an array of designs and advice for both minor and major home improvement
products to cater to most tastes all under one roof. Whilst the
majority of store openings were within the UK International expansion
also began during this era. In 1998 B&Q merged with Castroma
to become the market leader throughout Europe. Within the late
1990's and early 2000's acquisitions and further developments
were made to corner the home shopping market with both mail order
company acquisitions and their Internet web store. Other financial
facts of interest about the B&Q market brand include:
Stores total over 400 worldwide, with over 300 in the UK (over
100 are warehouses)
