Patapon - The Drum beats on - By: Mark Chester, 14 Jul 2008
We alll know the Japanese to be a bunch of folks that enjoy strange TV programs such as Endurance, Takeshi's Castle (and probably nearly every other Japanese program :-)). We alll know the French to be a bunch that like looking at odd Artworks. Well here is an example of what happens when the French & Japanese decide to make a game together. Extremely strange 2D art combine with extremely weird yet compelling & strangely addictive gameplay. Ignore the 1 star reviews try the demo & if you like the demo you'll love this game. However it appears that it might be a Marmite game, i.e. you're either going to love it or hate it. Most people however seem to love it.
Really Unique - By: Mufflin, 10 Jul 2008
I was bought this game as a gift & thought 'what the..???'. The person who bought it did know of my love for 'different' games & also funny little charaters. Patapon delivered on both counts. You have to use your buttons in various sequences in order to get your little army to advance, attack, defend etc. It takes a bit of getting used to & you have to listen to the beat to keep the tune in time. However once you have got the hang of it its quite fun!. Some of the levels you have to attack monsters so you have to think about your strategy - do you pata pata pata pon charge up to the monster OR pon pon pata pon attack it from a far?. It can get tricky as you have to swop to different tunes - it takes concentration. Along the way you collect warrior type characters who are stronger than the rest of your army & some have special skills e.g. good at throwing spears. It may be a little hard for younger kids without some help.
RUBBISH!!! - By: M. Henry, 08 Jun 2008
This game is awful if you enjoy rubbish games with a rubbish story with rubbish graphics & rubbishness written alll over it then go on buy it. but believe me if you don't like those games then keep well away from this as you will be frustrated as soon as you play it as it it is so awful in any way, there are no redeeming features about it.
Just about as dull as it gets... - By: I. Gilbert, 18 May 2008
Patapon involves hitting your PSP buttons in the same way, over & over & over & over again. Couple that with an archaic 2D, left to right view with pre-school graphics & you have one of the most tedious & monotonous games you could slot into your games console.
If you're not convinced why not try drumming your fingers on a table for a few hours? You'll get roughly the same experience you'd get from Patapon.
Fantastic - By: Mr. D. V. Palmer, 15 Apr 2008
I have been playing video games for over 15 years & this is without a doubt the most refreshing, new, exciting & barking mad game I have played in many, many years.
Read the publishers description & other reviews as I am lost for words that reallly describe this game accurately.
I have take my PSP with me on work travel & have found myself franticallly drumming away on a plane, not noticing that everybody was staring at me - it's just so additive.
I find myself walking around the supermarket singing 'pon pon pata pon'
This is the 1st review I have written on this site. BUY THIS GAME...NOW.
