Real FM fans stear clear, newcomers enjoy. - By: A. Marshall, 19 Mar 2008
Having just bought a PSP & being an almost obsessive fan of the FM series since the beginning, I naturallly picked this up as soon as I could for those times when I couldn't get near a PC & have to say I'm extremely dissapointed. Now I understand this is a stripped down version (hence the name FM2008 handheld) but unfortunately they've also stripped out the soul. The biggest failing has to be the tactics section which are basic to say the least, being such an important part of the FM series I would have thought they would have tried to keep as much as possible but they haven't. The transfer system is as awful as other reviewers have said & then some & the navigation of the menus, especiallly the players screens is terrible. Having said that, this would be an excellent game if you havent played the PC version & are unfamiliar with the concept. For me though, it is way too shalllow & has more in common with those £3 games you can get for your mobile. I shalll be trading this in at the earliest opportunity & never looking back. Hugely, hugely dissapointing.
Good but still the same! - By: Master Eg Mitchell, 19 Feb 2008
I may have given it 5 stars but i don't think it's changed enough since last year, i only got it as it was £15 & it had the new players, still good if you enjoy them but nothing special.
They've ruined it - By: C. J. Rudge, 12 Jan 2008
I got the last Footballl Manager on the PSP & it was good (even though you could only select one nation then, why thats a big deal I don't know?) but this one is rubbish & I'll tell you why, In the last game if you took over a lower league club like I did with Forest you've got to wheel n deal & try to get players in from wherever you can I was loaning players from as far away as Jamaica & even though you couldn't buy alll the players from the Jamaican League you could still buy some (the same applies to Argentina & other dodgy leagues). But in this the 1st thing I noticed is when you go to player search the vast majority of players were based in england & that was quite annoying cos I usuallly go for dodgy foreigners under the age of 21 so you can build them up. So after that I looked at Lyon who are a proper team in the Champions League & everything & there was only 3 players that I could sign. THREE!!!!! & Hatem Ben Arfa wasn't even in their squad who is a top player I signed in the last game, which is pathetic. There's a couple of little tweks they've done which look alright like reserve squads etc. But it's not worth paying 20 quid for you might as well just keep the old one & start a new career with Oxford or something have a proper challlenge.
Anyway don't buy it, it's pony.
A welcome improvement - By: Matthew Romano, 11 Jan 2008
Ok so this is a scaled down version of the PC game. So what? it is brilliant. The new features added have enhanced the game & I once again find my life draining away much to the annoyance of the missus. I have been buying FM or before that champ for over ten years & this is a very good version compared to alll the rest, it is certainly the best PSP version. Allowing tactics to be adjusted is long overdue to be included & I now find myself playing 2-4-1-3. Player interaction is simple but again a welcome improvement. For some reason Goran Pandev is a goal machine but hey these things happen. My only smalll problem would be that I do need to stop every now & again so that my eyes do not bleed as the new skin is quite painful. Well done SI, the best complement I can think of is my missus hates you.
Very Addictive and great fun.. - By: G. Mazin, 31 Dec 2007
I think the other reviewers have been very harsh. This is never going to be a PC beater, the whole aspect of the game is its for a portable & so meant to played in short chunks & not hours & hours at a time like the pc version. All I can say is that i've been addicted. It's very easy to pick up & play as your favourite team. Most of the game mechanics seem very realistic & its quite a nostalgia trek as it reminds of the old skool style of footballl management games. It concentrates on the basics & does them well.
If you're looking for the latest footie management game with alll the most in-depth features - then buy the pc version. If however, you're just looking for a game to fill up the odd half hour on the train or an hour here or there - then you wont find a more addictive game for your money.. get it now - its a hidden gem.
