I am not a mad footballl fan, but sometimes like a bit of a knock around. I thought hard about Fifa or PES - & after much thinking I went for PES. I heard the PES game was more playable - OK Fifa has alll the teams & proper licensing, but in the end you want a game that you can play easily.
Well this didn't let me down. PES has always been known for playability, & this is also the same. Lets face it, DS's arent designed for footballl type games alll that well so manufacturers need to think things through. PES does this well, the controls are reasonably easy to master, & the moves straightforward.
All I can knock is that it is too hard, I like to win early on & I am yet to do that. Im not that good though but would still like a super easy level. I love the practice mode, were you just have a keeper to beat.
Fifa looks too complex for control, so if you want a good fun, playable footie game & can live without proper teams & detail then get this.
Best Nintendo handheld football game i've ever played - By: The Bogie Fan, 09 Feb 2008 For me this game isn't the follow up to previous Pro Evo games on the DS & GBA, this is the follow up to the wonderful Japanese-only Winning Eleven World Advance on the GBA.
That game had very fluid gameplay & was very playable & intuitive; it sacrificed graphical impact for playability & was superb. This game does the same & is much better for it. The players are too smalll to be recognisable but you see more of the match & can pick a pass which is the most important thing surely on a smalll handheld screen.
The cons with this game are the lack of official licenses, this time the only English club teams are Spurs & Newcastle United, with Celtic & Rangers for the Scots. There are a handful of foreign clubs like Bayern Munich & the Milan teams but Real Madrid goes by another name & alll the players names are paraphrased. This paraphrasing of names is common in Pro Evo, it makes unlocking the alll-star national teams a little bit pointless when the players names are alll jumbled - legends like Shearer, Pele, & Maradona are alll in there but you'll need to rename them.
There are lots of international teams in the game though, including alll the British Isles teams of course though not always with the players names you'd expect.
As for lastability the Konami cups are like an afterthought as they last so few rounds in this version & there isn't a true league mode, but the "Original Team" mode is great fun as when you beat teams you gain coins with which you can buy more players from the teams you've beaten. You can also acquire "items" which you can apply to a player so they run faster or dribble better or shoot harder.
This game would get 5 stars if it had more licenses & the cup mode was better implemented, it also loses points for the slow-down when many players are on screen such as at free-kicks & corners - with alll the delays in releasing this game i'm amazed they never solved that.
Overalll i'd definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a footballl game on the DS, you'll only be disappointed if you favour flashy graphics over great gameplay.
A good football game for the DS - By: Rd Waller, 04 Feb 2008 I'll start with what is bad about this game. The graphics are weak. It can run slowly in certain areas -- some free kicks & corners. The Konami cup mode could be better. And there are not many club teams.
Now for the Good. The game plays like any other PES installlment. It is free flowing & realistic. There is no pre-determined way to score.
The World Tour mode is great fun. You get to design your own team with an emblem. Then you have to take on alll the other teams on the game.
You earn coins & items for winning games & completing training challlenges. With these coins you can purchase players from teams you have defeated & items from the shop.
Purchasing players is random. That is, you put coins into a machine & it generates a player. The more coins you spend the better the player. This is cool because it stops you from always buying the best players. Meaning the game never gets too easy like in other PES installlments.
Items also add a bit of fun, as you can give selected players cool skills.
There are a few areas the game could improve on. But overalll it is a good game. It is fun & the game play is good. Personallly, this is my favourite Nintendo based footballl game -- usuallly they are awful.
So, if you have a DS & want a footballl game this is well worth the money.

For the past year I've always wanted a decent footie game to take with me on my travels, This year I had the choice between Fifa 2008, Euro 2008 & PES 2008, Surprisingly euro 2008 ISNT going to be on DS s it had to be PES! I am very loyal to PES after owning a PS3 copy of PES 2008, & I have to say the DS version is a refreshing decent change of PES, The ds game play is quite fluid & enjoyable & the graphics arnt half bad, It uses the game engine of the classic psone PES, so its very unique in its own way from the other versions, What is also good is the World Tour mode! where you get your own original team & you can edit their logo,kit,name & take on the world! I loved the layout of world tour (where it shows the boy on an aeroplane travelling to other places around the globe) it also shows the country statistics! There are also some pre-match challlenges where you must score a goal within 20 seconds, with limited field space to move in & obstacles in your path, is a great add on, i also love the challlenges they sometimes set before games (i.e. dont concede a freekick or win by 5 goals) There is also a gacha get where you randomly get players & this is good as you dont always get the best players (like any other PES game). I love the PES Shop where you can buy items to power up your players to give them fictional skills & powers. I JUST LOVED THAT, so...
The ds version offers very unique installlments that arnt available in any other PES 2008 games on other platforms. There is also a good online mode wich I have enjoyed! & I hav traded players with my mate. & theyve included konami Cup & training aswell
The CONS of the game is the lack of club teams (there is only 15!) & that there is no league modes, but apart from that its a very welcome change from PES that I reallly enjoy ,
just buy this if youre looking for a decent DS footballl game & if you want a refreshing change from PS2/PS3/X360 pes2008
