Okay..... - By: R. D. Martin, 03 Mar 2008
Generallly this game is ok. Graphics arent that bad but nothing amazing, gameplay is quite good as it can be tricky in places. However jumping from platform to paltform can take a very very very long time to get right beacause they camera doesnt follow you around alll that well, causing you to falll have to run back up & manuallly set up the camera again.
Worst game - ever - By: wolde, 16 Feb 2008
Hi Amazon,
long time reader, first time reviewer. I've just thrown my copy of The Simpsons game for the PSP in the bin after about one & a half hours of constant frustration. Why, I don't hear you ask? Well, let me tell you anyway. The control system & camera system are the work of the devil; the level design seems to work together with the camera system to guarantee you cannot see where you are or what you are meant to be doing & the simple act of trying to move a character around on screen is awful. Perhaps I am too old for this game. After playing it, I certainly feel a lot older.
On a related note, why can't you chose zero stars for the "how much fun is this game?" & "how do you rate this game overalll?" ratings?
Anyway, my recommendation is to steer clear of this farmer's pat of a game.
End the Hype now - By: Andrew Young, 29 Jan 2008
The Simpson's are well overdue a kick in the teeth, lets face it even the episodes are increasingly becoming less & less funny. how anyone could ever justify a game about a cartoon is beyond me.

luckily i didnt have to buy this game myself & I got it as a gift, the game play is boring the interludes between game play with the characters is even more so, how anyone ever thought this would be a good idea......well you get the point.

even if you are a die hard fan of the Simpson's this game is pushing it for anyone over the age of 5.

if for one minute people would stop listening to those who get to air their views constantly on television about "how great & the best thing ever" the Simpsons is & just forms their own opinion it will be clear that this circus stopped being funny about half a decade ago.

The Simpsons Game moves the franchise away from the free-roaming driving-esque games like Road Rage & Hit And Run. Hit And Run offered some platforming moments but was primarily a driving game - Road Rage with additions if you like. This game is pure platforming action.

You get to control Homer, Bart, Marge & Lisa through various levels - each level is designed for two specific characters. For example, level 2 is set in the Springfield Museum with you controlling Bart & Homer, switching between characters at will to solve puzzles.

The graphics on PSP are obviously not as good as on PS3 & 360; that goes without saying. The graphics resolution is not as high resulting in much rougher looking graphics than on the bigger consoles. However, despite a clear loss in detail & smoothness, the in-game graphics are still good. They are colourful & still remain faithful to the show, with characters & environments easily recognisable. And remember, this is the only way of playing a 3D Simpsons game on the move - DS version is primarily a 2D side-scroller.

The biggest appeal to this game is the 40+ minutes of animated footage made exclusively for the game. The animated scenes divide each level & are a nice treat for any Simpsons fan. However, I found the script somewhat less humourous than the tv series - the jokes were not as well-written. I think it is just the high standard of writing in the tv show that is to blame more than anything. The clips are still enjoyable to watch & the animation is silky smooth - it is very much like watching a genuine tv episode.

Typical of any Simpsons game, we have lots of funny voice-overs during gameplay - some are annoying, especiallly when constantly repeated, but I have found myself regularly chuckling to myself over some of the comments thrown about in the game. I have noticed a few recycled comments from previous Simpsons games too.

The gameplay is challlenging but can become very frustrating - the main issue is the atrocious camera, which often hinders rather than help you. It is such a regular annyance that is almost completely ruins the game. However, the familiar sights & characters of Springfield, not to mention the Simpsons humour, do just about pull the game through.

Overalll, an awkward game that would probably be below average if it were not for the Simpsons brand attached to it. If you're expecting the definitive Simpsons game I'm afraid you will have to wait a bit longer. 4 stars for the humour & 2 stars for the gameplay - I think that just about warrants 3 stars overalll. Not a terrible game by any means (I'm sure you'll get a few hours enjoyment from it)..... just very average.
