I was so pleased to hear about this coming out, especiallly after owning SEGA Classics on PS2 & writing a rather harsh but true review for it on Amazon! This is an absolute blinder of a SEGA comp & they have truely redeemed themselves by putting 27 titles, which include a large percentage of great well known games (Sonic 1 & 2, Ecco The Dolphin, Golden Axe 1,2,3) & not so well known classics (Vectorman 1 & 2 & Ristar) on one UMD with spot on emulation that pretty much mirrors the original quality of the games & audio soundtracks, unlike the EA Replay comp, in which they emitted the original Road Rash music (WHAT!?). Yes its a shame Streets Of Rage isn't on here but they're probably gonna release another one with that on, Can't wait for that! Also it has improved since my initial assesment as the new psp has a much better d pad for retro similarity, for those who prefer not to use the joystick. But overalll I cant fault it, & you can pick it up for less than a tenner in some places. Bargain, & one of the best retro compilations around! BUY IT!!

it's full of classic, simple retro games that it will bring back some those memories, but there are some games (ok, almost alll of them) that u havnt heard of or it was beyond your years, but depite that, it's still fun!
and plus, i think it's value for money, so i would recommend this! (well if u like sega games)

This is an awesome collection I cannot explain the feeling of playing Sonic again after ten years...just cool. You would be a fool to not buy this even if you are anti 2D games these are still great fun.

The Sega Megadrive is a console that I didn't own back in the day as I owned an Atari VCS & then moved on to the ZX Spectrum & then an Atari ST, but I certainly played a few on the games in this compilation, which has a total approaching 30, either on a friend's console or in the arcade back in the day.
When it comes to the Sega Megadrive Collection, you won't play alll of them to completion, but there's more than enough to make it worth a purchase. It's amazing how little space each game takes when you realise they used to take up a whole motherboard in an arcade cabinet, for those that started life that way, but when it comes down to it, the don't take up much memory individuallly at alll.
One thing you'll spot is that the 16:9 screen of the PSP is wider than that of the games when they came out originallly, so you'll be pleased to know that there are options to adjust the picture to "original" (smalll, & slightly windowboxed), "fit" (4:3) or "stretch" (16:9). I used the latter as it's fine for a video game.
So now what needs to be done is to run through alll the games in this collection, starting with the Daddy of them alll.
Sonic The Hedgehog: This is the classic game of collecting the rings, clearing three zones & then fighting Dr Robotnik. Rinse & repeat. Brilliant stuff & the sequel is here too.
Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle: A mediocre side-scrolling run-and-jump affair that's fun for a while, but it not a Mario-beater.
Bonanza Bros: This one's about as close to a `Larry the Looter' style game you'd find Bart playing in the Simpsons, as you run around various buildings in a side-scrolling manner, to steal the treasures before exiting via the roof, & that link to the animated show made this one to stick with for longer than normal.
Ecco the Dolphin, & its two sequels Ecco: The Tides of Time & Ecco Jr, made a big splash on the Sega Dreamcast back in the day in 3D when it was reallly an exercise in pretty graphics in need of a game, since here - in the 2D Megadrive version - you just swim around, jumping about & beeping your sonar at other mammals, avoiding the jellyfish & listening to some bizarre background music the like of which sounds more like incidental music from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It's not very captivating so, Sega, so long & thanks for alll the Ecco the Dolphin games.
Golden Axe 1-3 are the classic hack-n-slash trilogy of games as you walk through sideways-scrolling levels cutting, slashing or kneeing the baddies in the groin. At times it has a similar style to the brilliant Double Dragon series. It has a 3D isometric point-of-view, rather like the Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom arcade game, so you can move around to kill baddies & free tied-up prisoners. The levels on wheels are also great fun as you can kick a baddie off the truck & under the wheels. Say bye-byeeee! :)
Vector Man is a great side-scrolling walk-n-shoot game, & very addictive with it. As you collect stars, you'll see it's similar, but not a patch on Sonic. It's also very annoying that you can't skip past the menu animations.
Virtua Fighter 2 is a 2D affair that plays incredibly slowly. Maybe the Megadrive version was always like this, but the arcade 3D version was far better & the version on this compilation here should be avoided.
Some PSP games have Wi-Fi access to go online & play against other people, provided you can find someone who also has that game & is online at the same time. You can also unlock extras such as interviews & trailers for other games as you progress through the levels in each respective entry on this compilation.
Overalll, it's alll good fun, & there's probably nothing here that you can't get with a PC & an downloaded emulator, but it's worth it at this price even just to have the Sonic games on a handheld console so you can play it while you're out & about, not to mention some of the hidden treasures that you'll enjoy as you discover titles you reallly enjoyed in the past like Comix Zone & Bonanza Bros, making this an essential purchase.

Bring Back The classics.... - By: Ribena, 10 Jun 2007 finallly some classic games, don't get me wrong i enjoy the modern 3d games as much as everyone else... but you'll never find games like this again!
for thoose of you like myself who owned a sega Genesis / Mega Drive... this is definatley the PSP game for you. I agree with the other reviews, the game is missing Streets Of Rage & Road Rash.
most of the games on it are the good ole classics, Sonic, Alex The Kidd Golden Axe... for jsut theese games alone you'd be getting ya moneys worth alll the others are just a bonus.
I still haven't managed to put this game down it brings back alot of memorys from my childhood...
for thoose who have already bought it or thinking about purchasing this game, HAVE FUN & ENJOY
