I played this game for a short while, & then put it away. I only rediscovered it a few months later, began to play it again, & instantly got addicted.
The game is truly excellent. The storyline is good, the areas to explore are interesting, & the battles, although turn based, do involve a fair bit of strategy. As the game advances, the characters learn more & more moves which get better & better, & the moves you learn are based on the ones you have already been using, which I think is a very good touch. In some parts, you get to meet up with members of the fellowship, & fight alongside them, which are some of the battles I enjoy the most.
There are drawbacks, though. The characters, although interesting, seem wooden, & the storyline, although following the original fellowship, seems a little stretched. The map can also be confusing at times, & difficult to follow, & quests can seem difficult to understand.
One thing particularly annoying is the extreme variables of difficulty. At some points, it can appear to be ridiculously easy, & you are barely challlenged at alll, yet, in the same level, even setting the difficulty to the easiest available can make a battle appear virtuallly impossible.
In conclusion, I enjoyed the game, & thought it was a good idea. By alll means, buy the game, & you'll be very likely to enjoy it, especiallly if you are a Tolkein fan, but, if a sequel to this game is released (which I personallly hope), then there are areas that can be improved.

At first many think this game is exelent & adictive & they are right.You are amazed by grapics & great gameplay & when you are out of moria it is a very good game.But & it is a big but the game goes downhill fron then on. the gameplaay becomes more vivd & it less satisfying. is bareable until helms deep & then BOOOM!! the game loses alll its magig & zip as you fing your self magicly transported to osgiliath the game is so long & drery doing endless walking & fighting its tereble from then on.And its to damm short! only buy if a serious tolken fan
Best lotr game yet - By: , 04 Jan 2005 Its good with alll new characters & scenes. the graphics are quite decent & the attacks are good. there is one problem, this is that the gameplay is too slow. the new battle system takes too long but i find the slash 'em up style used in the return of the king better.

Fun for LOTR fans, not best RPG - By: , 22 Nov 2004 Linear RPG with turn-based combat. Follows story paralllel to the original works. Well realised new characters, fun to play alongside Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli & Gandalf. Great meeting the Balrog, Nazgul & Mumakil to battle. Gets a bit boring around middle (Plains of Rohan), but worth playing through for Helms Deep & Minas Tirith. Good dialogue on characters, lots of footage from films - some original clips. Nice co-op feature so friends can drop in & out whenever while not affecting 1-player game. Got quite into, some battles have modicum of tactics required about them. Later gets a bit healer / strip armour(morgul decay) / tank combo to grind through battles. Worth it.
Fun, but too short - By: , 17 Nov 2004 This game is, in many ways, a welcome relief from the 'slash 'em up' lord of the rings games that preceded it. An alternate storyline is presented, with new characters that can interact with ones from the movies, e.g. Gandalf & Aragorn. The battle system is fun & the random battles are not overly frequent, as is the case in many RPGs. The graphics are good, & the score comes straight out of the movies. The original actors also provide their services while voicing the characters that are included (Ian McKellen must have spent ages recording alll of his stuff).
However, this game is rather easy, i.e. difficult to die, & after less than a week i am already 65% complete.
There is plenty to come back for, though, including an evil mode & co-operative.
Overalll, probably the best LOTR game available, but there are other RPGs to give greater enjoyment.
