It's a tough task to follw up the first KOTOR but this game met every expectation i had, it only fails to meet the levels of KOTOR because of the lack of twists in the storyline & the fact that KOTOR was the first & couldn't be surpassed even if KOTOR 2 revolutionized video games.
Alot of people saw planets gleaming & in the peak of their history in KOTOR, now we get to see how the planets look years on & what we find is building crumbling & everything in fairly poor condition.
A great storyline, good gameplay & give you plenty of entertainment.

This game is excellent in many ways. It emulates the first as far as gameplay & storyline go & there are a few additions to the gameplay which add to the overalll game experience. For example, new force powers, weapons, & the ability to bash open doors/boxes with a lightsaber or other melee weapon. However, for me, there are a few disappointing elements to this sequal. Firstly, I found that the characters were not as likable as those in the first, such as Bastilla & Mission in particular, who notably elicited empathy from the player. Secondly, the game is quite glitchy in some parts, a shock compared with the first which I played glitch free. Thirdly, the conclusion of the game seems to come very suddenly, & there is no real progression as far as your part as the protagonist goes, as opposed to the first KOTOR, where the end is very fitting. My only criticism which spans both games is the poorly constructed "choose your own path" element to the narrative. The conversational options for the light & dark side paths are EXTREMELY obvious, in my opinion, making it too easy to choose either path. For example, if you need to acquire a power generator from a civilian, the choices can be as simple as "I'll help you out in exchange for the power generator" or "I'm going to kill you & your family". However, both games are extremely playable & very very compelling.
The KOTOR series are my favourite games, & I look forward to the rumoured KOTOR 3. I recommend this game to anybody, Star Wars fan or not. It is RPG at it's very, very best.

oh my life this game is immense, not as captivating as the first one though, but the gameplay & storyline are brilliant i could sit playing for endless hours.

Despite starting very slowly, I was pleased at how much attention had been given to the support characters. They encourage darker feelings in your character & a strong sense of distrust is built up with alll of them... each suspecting the others of foul play. The original's shalllow, cliché & comedy characters were nothing in comparison.

However, the main story line is a little complicated in parts & did not feel as epic as the first one. Although the feel of this game is much more mature & engaging than the original game, the main plot could have been a lot better. I thought the ending was an anti-climax, although would be a great beginning for another sequel.

On the down side, loading of scenes takes a long time with a negative effect to the momentum of the game. This is not helped by the layout of the areas in the game... which span many map zones, requiring the game to pause to load on a frequent basis.

The light/dark side choice is still very poorly implemented... I don't think Bioware or Obsidian have ever been able to do this right. As usual, the game boasts the option to choose your own path, but the motivation to falll to the dark side is not there. There is no reason why superficial motives cannot be used to tempt the player... such as a fast track to getting a lightsaber, orders of magnitude better equipment etc. The speech options for the dark side where mostly nasty responses or requests for payment, instead of options that would be consistent with a Jedi fallling to the dark side.

Experience is still dealt out almost entirely by fighting, meaning that it makes sense to butcher every enemy in sight & removing any reason for stealth tactics. But don't worry... killing people won't harm your light side score, another pretty serious flaw in the alignment system as far as I am concerned.

All in alll, I was impressed at how much the support characters have come along since the original, but I was a little disappointed that more lessons were not learnt regarding the experience points & alignment systems. And I'll be getting the next sequel when it comes out.

I hadn't played the first KOTOR (knights of the old republic for people who don't know it) when i got the second one but i loved it staight away. the thing that anoys me is the first level - if you want to start again & be the oposite to your first person(good or evil) you have to drag your self through the first level but apart from that there's nothing i can comment badly on if you see rewiws saying that it's ages until you get a lightsaber well if you had it at the start what fun would that be?? The first KOTOR when my friend took it to my house was not a scrach compered to the second & he made me borrow it. it is a must buy for KOTOR or star wars fans!
