Does the job very well. - By: D. James, 05 May 2003
What else can I say? If you want to access the Gamecube's (currently limited) selection of online games, you'll need this adapter to do so. Its very disreet & fits under the machine in one of the empty bays. The telephone line will fit into the socket revealed at the side. The modem seems to make no noise what-so-ever, even when diallling up, which is nice to see, & although there may be some issues wih what ISPs you can use for connecting to Phantasy Star Online, this is down to their servers & the method of connection rather than th modem itself. The hardware is perfectly fine.
Suprisingly good performance for a 56k- thats Ninty quality - By: J. Day, 27 Mar 2003
Like most people, I do not have Broadband internet access at home yet so my only method of playing Phantasy Star Online is through this & my second phone line.
However, the game plays fine with very little evidence of lag with my ISP, & most people I've met online have 56ks anyway.
Word of warning though, before buying, contact your ISP about using playing online through your Gamecube because some 'don't except third party software'. Luckily, I changed ISP to one that accepts online gaming & the sign up process on PSO was quick & easy.
So, if you're playing PSO & aren't intending on getting Broadband in the near future then this is a solid, reliable option & reallly an essential purchase.
A New Meaning To Online Gaming - By: , 19 Mar 2003
This is purely a must-have for anyone who knows hte excitment of online gaming & wants to bring it to their console. For anyone who has attempted it, using a standard PC & a 56Kb line to play games online is woefuly slow & incredibly laggy giving you a majour disadvantage to people on broadband. The gamecube is different being a dedicated gaming machine playing games on a normal phoneline is just as good as using a broadband line. A gaming experience which should not be tured down currently the only online supported game PSO is amazing & I am sure there will be more even bigger & even better titles to follow
Modem adaptor - By: , 17 Mar 2003
This adaptor is good, although the broadband adaptor is much better, plus its the same price. It does the same thing as the broadband adaptor only not as quickly, but the broadband adaptor needs broadband connection equipment such as a DSL modem, so if you dont already have this you will have to buy it.
