Although this game is very old now it is still a lot of fun. The graphics are laughable at some points but that doesn't in any way make it a bad game.

Not enough to it to keep it interesting for long - By: N. D. Maidment, 13 Mar 2003
Although this is the best looking Star Wars game ever, it does not come close to matching the awesome Tie Fighter or X-Wing Alliance games of the late nineties.
There are 16 missions to chose from, plus a couple of bonuses at the end, but many of them are outrageously easy to complete, while others are unendingly frustrating.
The aim is to complete missions quickly & precisely to earn medals and, in turn, promotions with the Alliance. However, it can be infuriating to be part of a squadron of five ships but have to shoot almost every single enemy yourself.
Targetting also isn't that easy, & as a result, attaining the requirements of gunning accuracy can be close to impossible & in some of the more sprawling levels it's very to figure out where you haven't already been.
Worst of alll though, you can be on the very cusp of completing a mission only to fail due to the incompetance of your co-pilots & have to sit through the whole thing again. The music is also poor.
On the plus side, the ships respond well & look amazing. The missions are reasonably varied & the bonus missions at the end are a great reward.
It is particularly enjoyable to participate in the Battle of Hoth & the Death Star trench run is fun, if a little easy.
On the whole though, it's just not going to keep you playing for more than a week or two, unlike the older, more flight-sim based Lucasarts classics.
Rogue Squadron - By: Phil Haines, 11 Apr 2001
This game is reallly good. it spans 16 missions, each getting progressively harder. you fight your way up the ranks to eventuallly become the Supreme Allied Commander & when you complete the whole game (gold medal on every one) you can fly the millenium falcon & a tie fighter or any other ship in the hangar. The game has good replayability but the lack of multiplayer options is the only downside. the graphics are great & the controls are good too. i recommend using a joystick as this greatly improves the gameplay. overalll a great game.
Star Wars-tastic entertainment - By: Chris Russell (amonrag@hotmail.com), 07 Jul 2000
Ahhh the joys of racing over alien landscapes in an X-Wing fighter, blowing large holes in hoardes of TIE fighters - there's nothing quite like it. LucasArts have pulled out alll the stops to create a smalll segment of the Star Wars universe that lives & breathes & is filled with horrible shooty things that are constantly trying to reduce your starfighter to molten metal.
There's a good mixture of missions in this game ranging from recon & strike to full-on snowspeeder assaults against attack waves of At-Ats. The action is always fast & furious & keeps the player on the edge of their seat but there are times when the lack of a mid-mission save becomes a major cause of concern. One of the missions (for instance) involves shooting down an Imperial base, taking out a power generator, crippling two At-Ats then protecting a convoy from attaching TIEs - & alll without a save ! It can be done but it's a real pain if you make a stupid mistake & have to re-start the level ...
This said, Rogue Squadron's a great example of Star Wars games done properly. The cut-scenes reallly enrich the whole experience & the sound effects sound as though they've come straight from the Lucas archives. This is a great game for those spare half-hours when you can't be bothered to start anything long term but is equallly handy for quiet nights in with a boxful of tinnies.
