Wooden - By: Lucy, 19 Mar 2010
The most wooden acting in the HP series, even the great Alan Rickman gave a totallly uninspiring performance. After he kills Dumbledore (which is a very impactful & emotional scene in the book, with a battle! where was that!) he wanders off casuallly with the death eaters as if they are going for a butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks.
Ginny & Hermione's characters need new actors, they cannot act for toffee. Draco Malfoy was the most convincing.
The scene in the cave is pretty good though, & the part where Ron is poisoned.
Dumbledore's dead hand (a very important part of the plot) is largely ignored.
The ink swirls are not a good effect & simply confuse the dialogue & plot.
All in alll a disappointment, felt like a rush job & not a good sign for what the final films will be like.
Worst HP film yet - By: Brigitte Palmer, 18 Mar 2010
totallly ruined what was a good book, boring, mindless, shoddily made, poor acting & deviating far to much from the story into pointless made up bits (eg waitress in the beginning). I only hope the last one is better, alll of the directors after the 1st 2 films have been poor at bringing the book to life.
Harry Potter latest film. - By: Mr. S. Burgess, 18 Mar 2010
Loved it. Quick delivery & the product is superb just as good as being at the cinema watching it which I did prior to buying the DVD.
Harry Potter - By: Ed Doolitle, 14 Mar 2010
Another Harry Potter. I gave it 5 stars because it was what is expected of the Harry Potter series. I thing they have come to the end of their appeal though, not enough magic now. Kids were duly impressed but got bored near the end.
Great book, shame about the film - By: D. Harrison, 12 Mar 2010
As a (mature) Harry Potter fan since 2001 I think I was always going to be excited whenever a film version of the books came out, but from The Prisoner of Azkaban onwards, which I felt was by far the best of the films thus far, the quality has been going downhill. The problem seems to be that as the books get longer & more involved the films are getting shorter. To anyone (like me) who is so familiar with the books this has become a real problem as great chunks of the story are dropped from the film, & the selection of which bits are dropped seems to be very arbitrary. This is exacerbated when things are added in that weren't in the book, or radicallly changed from what was written. So to me this film is something of a disappointment & seems to focus far too much on the teenage angst/burgeoning love interests for my taste. To anyone coming to the film not having read the book the whole experience must seem somewhat bewildering as the film jumps from one scene to another without much continuity or explanation. I know that my wife, who gave up reading the books after Order of the Phoenix because her favourite character (Sirius Black) & favourite actor (Gary Oldman) were killed off in one fell swoop, found this film almost totallly incomprehensible. Seeing it for the first time at the cinema I was reduced to giving a whispered running commentary alll the way through!
The quality of the DVD itself is excellent & upscales reallly well on a Blu-ray player. I've never been much of a one for watching the extras on DVD/Blu-ray, although the ones I have dipped into so far have been largely informative & worth watching, but this cannot take away the fact that the feature film itself is disappointing. Don't get me wrong - I don't think it's a bad film, but just think it could have been so much better given the quality (and quantity) of the source material in the book
