Stunning example of sci-fi drama at its best - By: Mr. Stuart Bruce, 22 Feb 2010
2009 was when Torchwood changed- from being a self-indulgent cult spin-off version of Doctor Who for adults, into being a powerful drama in its own right. The way the drama plays out day-by-day over the five episodes is a brilliant piece of writing- absolutely the best TV show of 2009.
The Blu-ray is worth having, if you can watch it. As I write this it barely costs any more than the DVD, but the picture quality is absolutely stunning. The aerial shots of Cardiff & London in particular help convince you you're watching a high-budget feature film, not a TV series.
Once you've watched it three or four times, a few plotholes & slight inconsistencies start showing through, but let's overlook that as this is a pretty much flawless drama. If I could give it 6 out of 5, I would.
Children of Earth - By: J. L. Kinory, 15 Feb 2010
Lots of twists & turns in the plot that you don't expect, so you're kept on the edge of your chair for the whole series of episodes.
Goodbye jack - By: Mr. Stephen Skuce, 12 Feb 2010
I wonder if they will return with a new series but I feel this concluded torchwood
WHY BOTHER? - By: Mr. Francis P. Mcquade, 30 Jan 2010
I have often wondered why we earthlings feel so threatened by aliens. Is it because we know in our hearts that the most virulent disease is the one we produce ourselves: WAR. First we had Independence Day, "V" & now Torchwood. Did it ever occur to us that we pose the greatest threat to this planet.
If someone wanted to produce a first rate Sci-Fi thriller, series or movie which could be quite believable, why not choose Arthur C Clarke's "Childhood's End"? A great novel written about the final answer to Life, The Universe & Everything.
We are the most self-centered species on this planet, filling it with billions of offspring with such ease, that it would put a male rabbit to shame. In another movie I recalll, "Soylent Green" our habit of procreation becomes our undoing. Don't get me wrong, Torchwood is not bad & I watched it with considerable unease, which is what a good thriller is about.
