A big let down - By: Mr. A. Martin, 16 Feb 2010
I bought the non Blueray disk (which is in 2D). Then I found out that Monsters vs Aliens (with free 3D glasses) [Blu-ray] [2009] was available, as clearly advertised, available in 3D. I ordered two copies (one for me & one for my brother) & sat back in growing anticipation of watching the film in HD 3D.

One would think that "Monsters vs Aliens (with free 3D glasses) [Blu-ray] [2009]" means that Monsters vs Aliens is in 3D with free 3D glasses? Unfortunately the description is NOT clear in the extreme. the "with free 3D glasses" has absolutely nothing to do with the subject matter of the heading. The film is only in 2D!!
Worth the upgrade - By: PJ Rankine, 31 Jan 2010
So you know the story having read the synopsis & the reviews but is it worth the extra cost of a blu-ray? In a word, yes. The transfer is absolutely superb as you would expect from a Dreamworks presentation & the audiotrack will give your surround sound system a good workout. This was my dad's first experience of a surround system & he was amazed.
50's B movies never looked this good! - By: P. Flack, 17 Jan 2010
As a father to 3 young girls i am often asked to buy a new film for them to watch. From Beverley Hills Chihuahua to Bolt & Race To Witch Mountain, they have alll gone down a storm with my PS3 often whirring to the tune of one of them. And as a result i too usuallly end up having to watch them. Sometimes they can be quite entertaining (and i refer to the aforementioned Race To Witch Mountain again here) but for the most part these types of films are normallly fairly predictable & unoriginal with familiar characters being reinvented over & over in a tried & tested manner. They safisfy the girls appetite for fun & laughter, but can leave the parents bored to tears.

That brings us on to Monsters Vs Aliens. I am old enough to have seen & laughed at the B-movies of 50 years ago (although not old enough to have seen them at the cinema at the time of their release I hasten to add), & can recalll their grainy black & white pictures, poor sound quality & even worse special effects with almost a feeling of content. These were films that had been made of very little money to fill a gap at the cinema to make a "Double Feature." There were never meant to be award winners or have big names starring in them & that is probably why they are regarded as cult films now.

Films with giant women in them; films with blobs in them; films with big bugs in them; films with bigger robots in them; films with Army Generals with Southern accents & tanks in them; there were alll featured in this film with obvious deliberate humour. There's more than a passing reference to Mars Attacks & even one made to Spaceballls thrown in too with a veritable feast of familiar faces & characters once used to the point of extinction. But none of that mattered. At least not to me. This film had me unashamedly laughing out loud for most of its 1hr 30min run time.

Sadly though, the same would not be being said by my 3 girls who each looked at me with obvious confusion & concern with every one of my joyful utterances. They had never seen any of these hideously made, poorly acted films from which this film had stolen alll its content. They had no idea that "Fishmen" & "Giant Women" & "blobs" had alll been done years eariler without the use of a computer. Sure, they chuckled at the slapstick violence that is often the staple of these films, but the true comedy, the very essence of this film was, & always would be, lost to them.

So it gets 5 stars from me for the sheer fun factor that the adults will get from this. Its just a shame that they couldnt balance it out a bit more evenly so that everyone would get equal enjoyment from it.

Feel Good Film - By: Sparky_IoM, 06 Jan 2010
I'd just love to be able to dream stuff like this up. However, I can't so will have to be contented with watching it. Excellent film in Blu-Ray, far too good for kids.
Fantastic Bluray - By: D. Lawrence, 31 Dec 2009
Please ignore the reviews where people can't read a simple Blu ray box. I'm so glad that others have given this blu ray a decent review, as it is such a great addition to our blu ray collection. The box clearly states that it is only Bob's Big Break which is in 3D, not the movie.
The movie is reallly entertaining & funny, but the 3D bonus reallly impressed me. I have Shrek 3D on DVD, which was nowhere as entertaining as this.
