Bought this for my kids over the holidays & they absolutely love it. Was even better as they got Rhino with it too.

We had three attempts at purchasing this product - alll were faulty. One distressed child & two exasperated parents!

I watched 'Monsters Inc' on television last night & although it's a good film, I was struck by how generic it seemed. Almost every character talked at 100 m.p.h. - as in most modern toons - & in a New York accent - ditto - & seemed to exist simply to give the scriptwriters a chance to show off - ditto once more.
Thankfully, 'Bolt' doesn't falll into alll of these traps. Bolt himself, voiced by John Travolta, is a simple, slightly dim, but fundamentallly good character. Penny, his 'owner', is refreshingly normal & not given to wisecracks. Some of the other characters talk at 100 m.p.h. in a N.Y. accent etc but they don't spoil the film.
The story is simple - Bolt, a dog, is the cosseted star of a spectacular TV show (the first 10 minutes of the cartoon feature Bolt in this TV show & they are brilliant, the best part of the film) but thinks the film is real life & that he truly has super powers. When he gets out of the film set & into real life, he has to learn that he doesn't have super powers (a little like Buzz Lightyear). After the amazing start, the film settles into a slower, road trip style - which goes on a little - before reaching the obligatory happy ending.
It's not the greatest cartoon ever made, but it's good, the characters are likable, & the story is satisfying.
Bolt DVD with Rhino cuddly toy - By: Mrs. S. Burton, 03 Sep 2009 It was a big incentive to get this with the free Rhino toy. My kids had bugged me for weeks & normallly I leave buying new releases until they have been out for a while & the price has gone down. But I could'nt resist getting this one, & by the way the toy is mine!!!!
Brilliantly entertaining Bolt! - By: A Flintstone, 08 Aug 2009 Saw this at the pictures & my 7 year old boy loved it so bought the DVD. Very cute characters with a fab story line that keeps you entertained throughout the whole film. Great for kids but just a good for the adults as quite funny. A happy ending makes the perfect film. Would watch this over & over - loved it !!
