Better Balanced and More Engaging Than Before- By: S. Porter, 28 Jun 2009 After the peculiarly uneven melange of episodes of its inaugural year, I'll admit I approached series two of Torchwood with some doubt & trepidation. It seems that despite the pretence that everything was rosy; the production team have taken heed of some of the more critical reactions. The writing quality appears to have improved across the season, & we're treated to some very enjoyable stories as a result. The biggest improvement is the shift we see in the characterisation which helps make the team feel more believable, functional & likable this time around, so much so, that the shock finale provokes genuine emotional responses. Much of the needlessly explicit language & innuendo has been toned down & feel less gratuitous & we see a series with a much better balance.
The special features are the usual fare we've come to expect from other BBC releases from the Doctor Who stable, but the HD format reallly is somehow worth the extra expense.
