only mildly funny . . . - By: kk, 29 Jan 2010
A weak comedy which doesn't reallly live up to the advertising promises. The plot is certainly thin & the whole thing is only mildly funny; not worth buying unless you have a penchant for this sort of thing.
Poor and a shame - By: Frids, 30 Dec 2009
I like Simon Pegg, I genuinely do, but this is the wrong vehicle for him. Doubtless this was an attempt to make a USA friendly film for him to launch his career over there. But most of the jokes don't work, the set-pieces are weak & a storyline that is one big hollywood pot-boiler cliche; I won't add a spoiler, but you can probably guess what happens yourself after about 15 minutes. Sadly even Pegg seems a shadow of his former self & Jeff Bridges is totallly wasted & not in his frequently entertaining way. It'd be only worth one star were it not for some decent one-liners, but that's about it. Deeply disappointing.
Good movie for couples - By: Rune Moberg, 24 Dec 2009
Simon Pegg does a nice job in this movie. It is a typical chick-flick kinda movie, where boy meets girl, boy doesn't fancy girl, girl can't stand boy, but the inevitable reversal comes & alll the pieces falll into place.
But: It is done in a fun & clever way. There is a good portion of humour in there for us guys. Many excellent british actors pop up in various parts which makes me think this movie is a labor of love.
As for Simon Pegg, "Run Fat Boy, Run" was funnier. They're both good movies to watch with a female friend, girlfriend or wife.
Good cast and acting, funny moments, but too predictable - By: Alison, 11 Nov 2009
A great cast in a somewhat weak film. I rented this film because I've enjoyed Simon Pegg's previous films & because the cast list was pretty impressive (Simon Pegg, Megan Fox, Kirsten Dunst, Gillian Anderson, Jeff Bridges, Thandie Newton). There are plenty of funny moments & plenty of good performances; Pegg, Dunst & Anderson stand out for me. However, the film often feels predictable & sometimes frustrating because of that. The pace was slow at times & the ending was expected & rushed.
The film's total running time is 1:49:35 & the blu-ray hi-def is good.
Blu-ray extras:
Deleted Scenes - 10 deleted scenes that can be selected individuallly or Play All(15:02)

Not a great movie but some stellar comic moments - By: Elizabeth Taylor, 22 Oct 2009
I came to this movie with no preconceptions or is that with no knowledge of Simon Pegg who having read other reviews seems to be well known, and, I thoroughly enjoyed it as simply an amusing tale with some old fashioned slapstick comedy. The storyline is of a brit wanabee celebrity journalist, who has limited social graces & a huge chunk of cynism. He is for some entirely vague reason spotted by an american magzine mogul who hires him to work in New York & thus provide the classic tomatoe or tomamato clash or put another way watch someone being very british in america & making that enough gags for a movie. There are also many familiar faces in the scenery - Gillian Anderson & Jeff Bridges to name but two as well as a number of individuals well known in british comedy shows.
I have to admit, that although this is a watch once DVD, & its not a great movie, & its predictable in places & it has a very cheesy ending I have to give it 4 stars because despite alll that there are simply some very very very funny sceness, where, I literallly fell of my chair giggling uncontrollably - & thats got to be worth something in these days of worldwide economic crisis.
