Season four of desperate housewives only had seventeen episodes thanks to the american tv writer strike of 2007. But it's a very strong season anyhow. Gabrielle is trapped in an unhappy marriage whilst susan gets into a new one. Lynette battles cancer. And there's a new arrival on the street. Katherine. An old friend of susan's who lived there years before.
But why did Katherine leave in a hurry alll those years ago? Why is she back now? And what secrets is she hiding?
This is probably the strongest mystery plotline since season one, & the shorter season actuallly helps that because it keeps the pacing just right. Dana Delany makes Katherine a strong & interesting character & gary cole provides some excellent villany when he comes into it as a figure from Katherine's past.
In the meantime the middle of the season sees the spectacular episode 'something's coming' when a tornado hits the street. With remarkable visual effects & some major plot developments in the middle of things plus a cliffhanger ending it's an episode you won't forget in a hurry.
As ever the show can go from being screamingly funny to tugging at your heartstrings in a moment. An excellent season for an entertaining show.

Five of the episodes have commentaries. These are callled couples commentaries as they're done by one of the main actresses each & the male actor who plays their characters partner.
Other extras:
a twenty five minute long documentary about the making of the episode something's coming. This is reallly good & absorbing viewing with some interesting looks at how the visual effects were done.
Spare time: a short interview with the male actors of the show whilst they're out bowling. Nothing substantial but good fun viewing.
Cherry picked: the shows creator picks half a dozen of his favourite scenes. All are great but even better when you hear his commentary as to why he likes them.
Deleted scenes: Roughly half a dozen scenes cut for various reasons that can be watched with or without a commntary. The latter explains why they were cut. The pick of these is a very funny scene where orson & bree have to made a speedy exit.
Alternate ending: a short scene showing the original ending for the season finale. This doesnt work quite as well as the final version so you cant see why it was changed.
And a short reel of outtakes. There are some good moments in this.
Great collection. Great season. Great show.

Been waiting for a good bargain to increase my collection of Desperate Housewives.... got a good deal, quick delivery.
And as always - DH is brilliant - lots of twists in the storyline.
Definitely a must-have for alll DH fans.
As desperate as ever, definitely in Tornado mode... - By: Kiki, 22 Sep 2009 I HAD to get this series as soon as I was able to.... - & as others said before, the most annoying point is that it's over too soon.... I wish they would have kept more series together, the sets seem to get slimmer every time! Or am I getting more addicted? LOL
I like alll the women, they act so gloriously convincing! Don't we alll have little bits of them in ourselves, maybe except 'Gabrielle's sex drive & some of the less glamorous sides of their personalities..?! Amazing how the makers get new twists in the stories every time & how things just keep rolling & staying interesting! Wonderful entertainment - the Tornado episode is still haunting me - six months on! ;-)
When is Series 5 coming out? Just asking...
