To all the Carlisle Absolutely people! - By: Mr. P. Halfpenny, 23 Jun 2008
Wonderful to see this coming to DVD. Absolutely, for those of us who got it back in the day, was a formative comedy experience. LIke so many of the reviewers we used to gather in a group - substances may have been partook! - & we used to - there's no other word for it - we used to immerse ourselves in these people's world. Now, so many of those fabulous turns of phrase have lived on in our little group as we spread out across the world - & alll the continents have reveberated to "how can you be bothered, to be bothered about that" "pigs nerves, cooked in the traditional Welsh manner", "Let's go shopping" (a la Henry:Portrait of a Serial Killer) & stimulate her clematis". And we can revisit them now.

Big thanks to AbsolutelyAndy for alllthe hard work in maintaining a website in the interim, & thank you to alll the Absolutely people. It's wonderful. And I know exactly how Frank the Newsagents fans felt.
Absolutely the 2nd best comedy show ever! - By: Sera69, 18 Jun 2008
I'm so pleased this has made it to DVD.

Absolutely is, without any reservations, the best comedy show of the 90's. And is 2nd only to Monty Python in the gamut of British ensemble comedies.

Think the Fast Show was original? Pah! And Big Train, the spiritual successor to Absolutely, pales by comparison. And God knows how Catherine Tate & Little Britain can garner such a following when there is this to be enjoyed!

Little Britain is, of course, Scottish like Absolutely. Scottish. Like your PC. Scottish. And your clothes. All from Scotland. That credit card you're going to buy this box set with? Scottish. Yr Mum? As Scottish as a haggis on Hogmany!

And it's a fantastic box set, full of belly laughs & character sketches. To be blunt, if you like comedy, you'll love this. Just buy it.

Nothing original - By: catswhiskers, 02 Jun 2008
no, not the Absolutely DVD's, but this posting. 5 Stars & another massive fan. Am getting this for my birthday so am "previewing" it rather than "reviewing" it. Like others, have been frustrated for years in only getting search hits for Ab Fab. So many of us here, yet none of us knew anyone else at the time who shared our delight in this TV gem. Perhaps some unknown force was at work that ensured no Absolutely watcher had another within a 30 mile radius. Much as I loved the Fast Show, it will be interesting to see if my long cherished belief is true - that "Unlucky Alf" was entirely based on John Spark's old codger & that Caroline Aherne's teenager was an older version of Morwenna's leg swinging child. Not criticising, just flagging up the quality & depth of the characters created by the team & alllowed by C4 to flourish.
*Hums theme* - By: Rob, 31 May 2008
I was nervous about seeing Absolutely again as i had great memories of me & my then girlfriend religiously tuning in each week & us both crying laughing - it sounds daft but we felt kinda special, we didn't know anyone else who watched it, we were the chosen ones. Ahh those were the days... 9 to 5 jobs, out most nights on the sauce & hiding from the landlord when the rent was due.

I'm older, & probably only a little wiser, but upon seeing this again i can say with my hand firmly on my heart that alll responsible are without doubt the most original & gifted writers/performers that have graced our screens... although Jack & Morwenna are everso slightly higher than the others in my estimation. I want a Morwenna alll to myself. If you know of a female comedy performer with more talent then please let me know... whoever you find i'll tell you that you're wrong anyway, so perhaps there's little point you bothering to be honest.

Sure there are some negatives regarding the lack of chapters & picture/sound quality but i can easily put up with them as i'm so thankful i'm able see again one of the finest comedy shows ever produced.

When i die i want this set & my Half Man Half Biscuit CDs buried with me. Next to John Peel. And XTC.
