TV at its Best! - By: Booksmith, 31 May 2008
The second batch of Hadleigh stories demonstrates what a fine TV programme we had back in the 70's. Although not quite as fast-paced as some modern counterparts, this is an exceptionallly well crafted series that stand up very well indeed. More please!
One of Yorkshire TV's finest shows - By: Camilla Semoh, 21 Apr 2008
Gerald Harper is elegant & believable in the title role. This is a series which is sometimes about class & the establishment in Britain, but more than that, it is a series which tells a story. Hadleigh comes from a favourable background, but he is switched on & in touch with alll of those around him. He can relate to people from alll walks of life. He sometimes makes mistakes, but he learns from them.

The scripts & direction are of a very high standard & the quality of guest/semi-regular players in the cast is admirable, with the likes of Colin Gordon, Hannah Gordon, Jane Merrow, Michael Billington & Mike Pratt, to name a few. I have thoroughly enjoyed series 1 & 2 of this excellent series, & hope that series 3 & 4 will be released in the near future.
Gerald Harper Lives! - By: W. H. Keery, 04 Apr 2008
I remember this series from when I was a boy. Monday nights, 9 o'clock. This second series has more punch than the first; seems much more certain about its aims. Hadleigh seems to be forever on the receiving end of inverted snobbery because of his inherited wealth & privilege. But he's a good sort & doesn't falll foul of the viewer (can't see a character like him receiving that kind of flak today, can you?). A whole series of co-stars reads like a who's who of the era: Hannah Gordon, Mike Pratt, Jane Merrow, David Langton... It's a real treat to watch good character-based drama like this. I'm already looking forward to the "sequels".
