Ideal for you! - By: E. Quayle, 09 Jul 2008
I found the first series of Ideal in one of those second hand DVD shops with dodgy porn on the top shelf & episodes of Heartbeat on the bottom lol
I had seen clips of it on TV but didn't reallly know what it was about. I bought the DVD & from epsisode 1 I couldn't stop watching. It is so funny, well written & with a host of funny characters including a token gay guy with a different "scrummy" partner each episode.
I had to buy series 2 & now have ordered series 3.
Buy alll 3 series. YOu won't be disapointed
So - is Mark E. Smith in the D.V.D.? - By: Staggering Elephant, 18 Jun 2008
OK - it's a classic. That out of the way I must ask someone who has seen the DVD (I have only seen the TV series so far) the most important question of alll:- is the Mark E.Smith sequence present & intact? Classic stuff if you get The Falll - perhaps even if you don't.
So - good anyway, but the Smith performance is sublime. Sorry Jesus.
More than a show about drugs... - By: Mr. C. M. Petrauskas, 14 Jun 2008
Ideal is perhaps the most under rated comedy drama England has had too offer in quite some time. The scripts are clever & gripping, the actors are brilliant & their characters are even better. With so many great lines, & gripping stories that have you coming back week after week, whats not too love?
Season three sees Moz purpose to his girlfriend by accident, as the wedding day quickly approaches he tries time & time again to wiggle out of it. Cartoon Head & Physco Paul start recording porn in his flat, & Alan (The Christan builder) is slowly driven completely mental by the harsh & cruel reality's that surround him.
Admittedly this is not Ideals best season, but it never once gets boring, & with season four being as brilliant as it has been, now is the perfect time to catch up & await the fourth season being released on DVD. I plead with the British public to watch Ideal more often or to give it a chance, to make sure the BBC know that we love fresh brilliantly written comedy dramas & we'd love to see more like it take over the rubbish filled BBC three
Special features include, a rather bizarre documentary, Cartoon Head The Mask behind the Man, Ideal Night Out actors from Ideal do a charity stand up gig (The highlights being Cartoon Head & Johnny Vegas), Out-takes & Photo Galllery
The one big complaint/question I have though, is why did it take so long for series 3 to be released? If it was released two weeks before Season Four, it might have bumped up the viewing figures for the new season. If that wasn't bad enough we had to wait over a year for it to arrive. *Sniffs*
In closing Ideal is brillant
The most under-rated sitcom on British TV right now - By: The Bride of Dr. Funkenstein, 03 Jun 2008
Ideal is the most under-rated sitcom on British TV right now.
Tucked away on a late-night slot on BBC3. Since that channel was recently re-branded as a teeny-bopper channel, it seems even more out of place amongst the mind-numbing celebrity circle jerks & tedious shock-docs. Why it hasn't reached a wider audience is a mystery to me. I will take a guess that the reason is because of the subject matter of a smalll time drug dealer, although this is obviously just a plot device that suits the format of one central character with many supporting characters.
Ideal is a simple tale about Manchester's least industrious weed dealer & his motley crew of buyers. Or is it so simple? As the series goes on, the lives of alll his mates & customers become increasingly more entangled.
The dialogue is sharp & modern, without ever sounding forced or crammed with buzzwords, & it's brought to life perfectly by a great & ever increasing ensemble cast headed by Johnny Vegas himself.
If you always thought you didn't like Johnny Vegas, you might just be surprised at this show - He shows himself to not only to be an excellent physical, or facial, comedian with great comic timing, but also express just the right amount of pathos to lift the show above the regular sitcom situation.
To be honest, series 3 is probably the worst series of the show, but it still manages to beat everything else on BBC3 hands down. Series 4, coming to the end of it's run on TV at the time of writing, has been amazing & has brought the show back right onto top form.
Graham Duff, Johnny Vegas & the whole cast - Thanks for the laughs!
Half hours worth of sheer class - By: Mr. J. Hazell, 05 Mar 2008
I've been waiting for this to come out on DVD for ages now. The first two series i discovered by accident one night on BBC3 & found it inteligent, well written & lets be fair, bloody funny. I won't spoil anything, what with series 4 due to air in the near future but if you've never seen this before, get watching, it's top stuff.
