It's ok - By: Ms. K. A. Bruce, 15 Aug 2008
I brought this DVD because I am a massive fan of Sarah M-G but I didn't think this film was very good. I was hoping for a real chick flick but this is not one!
Watch this again or suck my eyes out with a hoover? ill take the hoover thanks!!! - By: Leonie G. Plowright, 12 Aug 2008
I rented this as sarah michelle gellar is my favourite acress & I sooo wanted to like it but from start to finish whilst watching it I had the biggest confused face on me as the whole film just does not make sense!!

The story & the way it is filmed seems like a group of students have made it on a budget, it isnt believable in the slightest sarah michelle gellar sleeping with alec baldwin (EWWW give me a break!)
I have NO idea why it is callled surburban girl or what it is supposed to be about its the most ridiculous waste of time I have ever endured.

I wouldnt waste your time (im sorry SMG!!!)
Watch the trailer first, then trust your judgement - By: Garden of Eden, 31 Jul 2008
I watched the trailer & thought the film looked very medioka. However, against my better judgement, I thought the other reviews written here made it worth a chance! Boy was I wrong!!! It was boring, lacking much plot with only 1 or 2 vaguely humerous moments. I'm not sure what possesed ms Gellar to be in this film??!!!!
Witty romantic comedy about reassurances and living life - By: Louise Amkaer, 21 Jul 2008
Brett is an associate book editor, hoping to make full editor soon. She is however, terribly unsure of herself. She lives her life the same way she edits book - with a pencil, writing, erasing, writing again (sometimes even the same thing again) & having serious doubts. Then she meets big-time editor Archie, who just happens to be twice her own age. There relationship evolves to a professional teacher/student relationship & a romantic relationship as well.

I enjoyed this romantic comedy more than I had anticipated. It is as soggy romantic as I had dreaded, but more the kind of movie, where you laugh & end up recgonizing bits & pieces from your own life. Who hasn't ended reassurance in a relationship or professionallly? Who hasn't felt the serious doubt about what they were doing? Who hasn't been compelled to take charge, even if they do it poorly & reach some point of independence?

I would also like to compliment the performances from Sarah Michelle Gellar & Alec Baldwin. They are fabulous together in "Suburban girl".

Oh yes, I have to say, that the dialogue is witty & wonderful, full of literary references. It is nice to see a romantic comedy where they use words with three syllables or more.

Yes, this is a romantic comedy for Sunday afternoons on the couch, but it will make you want to break out & be independent.

Louise.
subtle and consistently humorous romantic comedy - By: dan the fan, 08 Jul 2008
This is a beautifully filmed, subtle & consistently humorous romantic comedy set in New York. Good chemistry between Alec Baldwin & Sarah Michelle Geller as the odd couple. If you're looking for a moving film that's positive even when dealing with negative events in life then this is your cup of tea.But too lightweight to be a mug - it doesn't have the lasting impact of something like Love Story ( with Ryan O Neill & Ali McGraw ).
