Excellent writing and acting! A must watch !! - By: Colin, 15 Apr 2008
I discovered "Becker" on satellite out of Dubai while working overseas (I don't know if it was ever shown in the UK). I think I picked it up in a later series than Series-1 judging by hair-styles & characterisations - eg "Bob".
I have to admit, I have never been a Ted Danson fan, although i did enjoy "Cheers" from time to time (mainly for the characters Norm & Cliff).
I enjoyed the Becker episodes I saw on satellite TV & this DVD set is brilliant. The scripts are excellent & I have NEVER seen Danson act so well.
Apart from the sheer comedy there is also a human pathos to the character.
All of the cast are excellent.
My only observation is that the early characterisation of "Bob" grates on me a bit, & i prefer the character that i saw on the later series.
I can hardly wait for the subsequent series to be released on DVD. This is comedy writing, acting at its best & it translates to a UK audience without problem.
I would strongly recommend this to anyone.
John Becker, The Doctor, The Man - By: DL Productions UK, 16 Mar 2008
Becker is a hit US show, starring Cheers front man Ted Danson; he's a doctor in the Bronx who's got a smalll doctor's office. He's obnoxious, difficult, & most of alll doesn't like his patients. He's got his friends Jake (Alex Désert) & Reggie (Terry Farrel) & works with outlandish Linda (Shawnee Smith) & Margaret (Hattie Winston), who's got to be in control.

Series one is a great series, we get to see Becker's more human side in the pilot, when he's got to treat a HIV positive child. Saying that, we also see his rage when he looses it with a patient when he makes a house calll.

Some of the best episodes include Sex In The Inner City, where Becker can't get away from people who are having sex, & he feels a bit left out by it alll. Tell Me Lies where Reggie keeps Jake & Becker wondering what's wrong with her, & proves that Becker is nosey. I also loved PC World, where Becker gets caught out by a PC reporter that reports that John is racist & a totallly unpleasant person to have to get medical attention from. This reallly annoys Becker.

This is a great show, & I'm reallly glad Paramount have changed their mind & released it. The tension between Becker & the rest of the world are funny, & the relationship he has with Reggie is starting to develop. Bob finallly turns up half way through season 1, & it's a great moment. Bob did add that extra je ne sais quoi to the show.

I also like the way we are lead to think Becker is a nasty man, when reallly he's very caring - & has good intentions, even though he hates to show that side of himself.

Definitely buy this, it's worth every penny, I've seen this series over 5 times now, & it's not getting boring.
