Love those foreign films... - By: Joseph, 11 Oct 2008
Well done, heart-warming story, excellent actors, interesting culture & location/scenery - I highly recommend it.
Disappointed - By: The Magpie, 02 Oct 2008
One of those films you think you should see because it's been raved about. I found it slightly dull & not much happens most of the time.
Read the book - By: Mr. E. Neil, 27 Sep 2008
Rarely does a film adaptation of a book manage to do justice to the original, & I have to say this is no exception. Whilst magnificently cast the film is too brief, goes at too quick a pace & glosses over key moments that the book expresses so eloquently. A prime example of this is Amir's final confrontation with long time tormentor Assef which has been reduced here to little more than a smash & grab yarn. 'Kite runner' is a very powerful tale of friendship, betrayal, remorse & redemption but you will miss out on many colourful details without reading the book. The film is agreeable & faithful in character, but not great.
Not what I had hoped for. - By: Martha Selwood, 07 Aug 2008
I watch lots of films from Afghanistan, Iraq & Iran & after reading the fantastic book I had high hopes for the film. Some parts - probably the bits set in Afghanistan were good, but on the whole I found the film unsatisfying. Rushed & even confusing if you hadn't read the book. Prime example - after he had been beaten up & was in the hospital, the tension created in the book when it seemed everyone may catch up with him was unbearable, but ommitted from the film! A wasted opportunity. Please please don't ruin Thousand Splendid Suns by making it into a film!!!
Touching, compelling and deeply uncomfortable film - By: Mike, 30 Jul 2008
I cannot comment on how the book has been translated into film, as I've not read the book. On its own terms, the film is a strange but compelling mix - some parts are painful to watch, while others make you smile. The acting is very good. Overalll, well worth watching.
