Surprising what Olyphant keeps in his trunk... - By: Mr. Stephen Kennedy, 19 Jul 2008
Critics were pretty sniffy about this movie on its release, & its true its no piece of art, but taken on its own hyper-kinetic action merits, it's actuallly not that bad.
Timothy Olyphant plays the Hitman - created, trained & indoctrinated as a consummate killer, known only by his number - 47. After a title introduction establishing his credentials, we see him as he goes on a job in Russia - but alll does nto go as planned, & he has to question who is telling him the truth. His only clue is a young Russian woman, who he takes with him as he tries to unravel his predicament. Meanwhile, Dougray Scott is the Interpol officer out to track him down in a remarkably wooden performance. Olyphant himself performs adequately, in a role which requires him to reign in any charisma which is his stock in trade, & become for the most part emotionless.
There is undoubtedly a large suspension of belief required, as the worlds law agencies find it impossible to track a man who wanders around bald with a barcode on the back of his head.. but the action scenes are fun enough, & at least some plot has been inserted to help the unlikely transition from game to big screen. Olga Kurylenko (soon to be seen in the new Bond movie Quantum of Solace) is very easy on the eye in a variety of incredibly unlikely clothes which seem to only barely cover her - & not always that.
Best of alll perhaps, are the locations - St Petersburg looks great, & Bulgaria filling in for Russia looks satisfyingly fresh & different to the norm.
All in alll, this does not do enough to break the curse of game to big screen adaptations being disappointments, but it's better than most & for brainless & occasionallly imaginative action is worth a watch.
Good action movie - By: D. W. Chester, 04 May 2008
This is a good action movie. Notice that the only negative user review is by someone who is a fan of the computer game of the same title. This happens regularly & I do not comprehend it. Judge the movie on the movie & not on some daft brainless computer game! Check out the reviews for Resident Evil Extinction & you will find exactly the same comments.
Hitman is a good movie. The action & effects are awesome. The Blu-Ray version has very good picture quality although not quite as crisp as some but you will need a very big screen (more than 50") or projector to even notice. It is far better than the aweful MPEG2 transfers that we sometimes suffer on BD titles like Commando for example. Why do those idiotic BD producers do that? It would be like putting a 1.3 litre engine in a Ferrari! Sound is DTS HD Master 5.1 & so is very good. Shame it is only 5.1 channels but then everything can't always be perfect!
All-in-alll a very entertaining movie.
COOL FILM!!!!!!!! - By: caz, 18 Apr 2008
I like this film i believe the reviews that only gave it 1 star are overly harsh. If you liked the bourne films then i is sure u would like this, it is not quite as good but still good. Fight scenes are great, soundtrack draws you in & chemistry between 47 & nika is good.
Basicallly a good action flick,
Missman - By: Sam, 16 Apr 2008
The Hitman has no name other than Agent 47. Sired by a mysterious group his entire life has been geared towards becoming the best assassin in the world. He is given his missions via computer & executes his goals without bias or compassion. That is until he himself becomes a target for the others in his brotherhood. This betrayal alll seems to stem from the execution of a Russian President who died, but appeared alive the next day. Hitman must uncover the truth behind the botched murder & in doing so discover who is trying to kill him. It's just lucky that he happens to be the best of the best.
`Hitman' is one of the worst films I have seen this year which is a real shame as I am a huge fan of the games. The main issue is that you never feel any connection to Timothy Olyphant as the Hitman because he is a character who has no emotion or background. Killing several police officers who are only doing their job does not make me sympathetic. This may be similar to the game, but games & films are very different.
Other problems are rampant. The acting is awful with Olyphant & Olga Kurylenko being the worst - any film that makes Dougray Scott look good is doing something wrong. I also felt that the action was too clinical. There were some extreme moments earning the 15 cert, but the majority of fights used fast editing which is a technique best left to 12A films. Finallly this is the worst BluRay translation I have seen with a slightly grainy image with less quality than a DVD - perhaps this was due to the poor direction only? Overalll, one to avoid - especiallly if you have a love for the source material or good action films.

Hitman Waste of money - By: Scott Ainscough-jervis, 14 Apr 2008
This is the worst film i have ever seen, it does not even follow the games.
1) In the film he is an orphan despite the fact in the games he is a clone & on the back of the case it says that aswell. Which ruins the basis of the Hitman storyline.
2) There is too much action, if anyone has played the game they will tell you that it is mainly a stealth game, But there are bombs going off & too much gun fire from a professional assassain.
It is only a good film if do not count the games as canonical. However a very bad reproduction & if you watch the documentary included "In the crosshairs" the director could not be further from the truth, he says he has made it very close to the games. Complete rubbish it is no where near the games so how dare he say he is a good director, i could have done a better job.
