A good drama - By: Prettylady, 07 Apr 2008
Having watched this on BBC1 recently, I thought it worth a second look & so bought this DVD. It's a great series with reallly good acting & as long as you suspend reality for some of the time, a good watch.
I loved this show! - By: A. O. Shillingford, 14 Feb 2008
I must admit that though I don't agree with a mandatory license fee, the Beeb do host very good dramas. I thought the storyline was realistic enough, with perhaps one exception though I'll say no more about it. The acting itself was exceptional! Love, anger, confusion, guilt, sorrow, grief, it's alll there in spades & as a viewer, you reallly 'feel' it - the acting is that good.
If a second series came out, I'd certainly watch though I'd be happy enough if it were left alone as I liked how things worked out.
Good old fashioned escapim - By: Bezerus Bezby, 02 Feb 2008
The story lines are ridiculous, the cast alll far too good looking & the sex scenes pretty cringy- but...this series is captivating & thoroughly enjoyable after a hard day at work.
The title is slightly misleading, since technicallly, only two of four are actuallly mistresses. Comparisions have been made to sex & the city, but the only real similarity is that the drama focuses on four women. The fashion element certainly isn't there.
Sarah Parish is excellent as ever. Orla Brady is also very good. The interesting thing about this drama, which makes it differ to sex & the city, is that the behaviour of some of these women makes them not particularly likeable, yet interesting none the less. Take Sarah Parishe's character- has affair with married man, as his GP, perscribes morphene when he discovers he is terminallly ill, bumps him off out of mercy & then proceeds to sleep with his son! Yep, totallly silly, but entertaining none the less & it's to Sarah Parishes credit that she makes this selfish & silly GP likeable.
It's shalllow at times, moving at others & certainly never dull. I hope there is to be a second series- enjoy!
