Good Story, Bad Acting - By: Dismal Angel, 21 May 2008
I decided to give this a chance despite the horrible reviews it seemed to get in every magazine & on every TV show. I'm glad I decided to give it a go as the story is actuallly rather original (in my opinion anyway) & has a few interesting twists in it.
Aubrey, (portrayed by Lindsay Lohan) is a senior high school student with an acceptance to Yale, & a talent for writing. Everything is cut short when she's abducted after a school footballl game, & is missing for two weeks.
By chance a woman finds the body of a girl in a ditch off the side of the road & takes her to the hospital - Aubrey has been found, however she's missing a hand, & a leg. Not only can she not remember what happened to her or why, but she claims she's not even Aubrey, that she's actuallly Dakota Moss, a teenage stripper daughter of a dead crack addict from a whole other city nowhere near where Aubrey lived. She's never heard of Aubrey, she doesn't know Aubrey's family or boyfriend, & her personality is the complete opposite of the girl she's thought to be.
As a horror story or suspense thriller (whatever you wish to peg it) this is an interesting twist on conventionality. A few things were never touched upon but it doesn't detract from an otherwise good movie.
One thing however that will spoil the movie for most - & nearly did for me - is Lindsay Lohan's portrayal of Aubrey/Dakota. She's an actress out of her depths here & I feel she only possibly took this role to prove she's not a little girl anymore. However, her performance is wooden & awkward, her representation of pain, suffering & most importantly fear, is half-hearted & her dialogue very stiff & unnatural - it felt forced as if she's trying too hard to be anything other than the comedic teen stereotype she has falllen into.
This gets four stars from me just because I hadn't seen a story like it yet.
Lindsay Lohan Can Act! - By: Julie Stepney, 03 May 2008
There is no doubt that Lindsay Lohan is a good actress. OK this film had a bit of a strange ending, with the viewer not reallly knowing whether there was another clone of Dakota/Aubrey actuallly writing the film. It has some unanswered questions for me at the end. What was the reason for the colour blue? Did the other victim stop wanting to be a piano player & was targetted by the teacher. Who was the other girl who was missing?
I would have preferred some answers rather than a picture of the two girls being reunited at the end. But the film was entertaining, it was gripping. The scenes of the torture were well acted by Lohan. And you were left thinking about the end. In fact I watched it twice & enjoyed it both times.
This girl has had a lot of bad press & probably deserves some of it - but don't forget, she wasn't the only known actor in this film, Julia Ormond to name one.
If you are a Lohan fan & want to see her progression into the adult world of film, then give this a view & don't take the opinion of the paid reviewers who have an axe to grind.

Entertaining for the wrong reasons! - By: Natasha L, 07 Feb 2008
I had heard that this film was going to be terrible & so I watched it with the same expectation. Admittedly, it wasn't a great film; but I have seen far worse films which purport to be better. The film was very, very predictable & it is very easy to tear the storyline & acting etc. to shreds whilst you're watching it (which was actuallly half the fun of the film!). At the same time, the story had a relatively interesting concept behind it & it kept my interest throughout it's duration. Ultimately, the film did keep me entertained (albeit probably due to how laughably bad it was in parts) which, at the end of the day, is what a film is supposed to do.
