Pretty good - By: M.J. Winship, 30 Jun 2008
I wasn't sure what to expect from this film but in the end I reallly enjoyed it. It's not without it's flaws of course. The story is played very seriously & the film makers have obviously decided they wanted a believable western in the mould of Unforgiven. This works most of the time, but when there's a shootout, & there are a few, you'll need to take a leap of faith cos the good guys (Crowe & Bale) get shot at millions of times yet come out unscathed, whereas it usuallly only requires one shot from them to kill six bad guys.
Anyway, I liked the film & the blu-ray picture & sound quality are as good as I've seen. Definitely worth a look.

Erm... so he's...erm...no...hang on...erm.
After reading a few online reviews had hopes for this one but found it alll over the place.Terrible confusing script, poor whisper/grumble grumble acting & more cliche's than you could care to shake a false leg at.
Dont bother.Rent The Assassination of Jesse James instead.
a bit slow - By: Mr P, 20 Apr 2008
The visual & audio quality are very good, so I'm glad I rented it on Blu Ray. I'm even gladder I did not buy it, because it isn't the sort of film I'm going to want to see again.
It is not a bad film, I did enjoy it. It does have some good action bits, but these are infrequent. It also has a lot of dialogue that although very well acted, especiallly by Mr Bales, does get a bit boring.
This is a film about morality, rather than an action film. The ending does make sense in my opinion (though some reviewers disagree), but it is a bit far fetched.
The film is a little like the beginning of the clint eastwood film unforgiven. Tough, gritty, depressing. It most certainly is not like any of the fistful of dollar films.
Rambling review, I apologise, but hopefully you get some sort of idea about the film, without spoilers.
Great acting, great camera work, feels authentic. A little dull. Worth renting if you like cowboy films, not buying.
Entertaining and convincing - By: L. Watson, 12 Mar 2008
Great story, great attention to detail - the sets, the weapons, the costumes. Great modern western, but slightly limited by the fact it's a western - it's hard to make the genre original when it's been done so many times before.
Weak!!! - By: Fiona McKeefry, 17 Feb 2008
Terrible storyline - ending didn't make any sort of sense, seriously disappointed by this one. I gave it 2 stars purely for the cinematography.
Don't bother renting it!
