Hollywood's Favourite Villains! - By: Al-Khidr, 14 Jun 2008
Yes another film about those Arab bad guys getting taught a lesson by the American good guys that save the day & of course become heroes...(yawn!)
This time 4 Americans go into Saudi Arabia & kill 100's of Arabs & go home heroes without barely a scratch...(that is basicallly the storyline)
Oh & also there is the Islamophobia which every good Hollywood film depicting Muslims must have.
There is a scene where one of the Americans is reading "The Complete Idiot's Guide to The Koran" & turns to the other & asks them to guess how many virgins you get when you go to paradise?! Well considering I have this book in my own collection I thought I would see for myself if there is any mention of this but guess what...there isn't! It is something that is not even mentioned in the Muslim holy book The Qur'an but is a favoruite subject brought up by those who like to attack Islam.
There is a scene where an American civilian runs out of his house shouting at Arab soldiers about their Prophet & the God they worship trying to make out that any violence is because of their Islamic religion. Yet another favourite subject brought up by those who like to attack Islam.
If you are a patriotic American under the illusion that the world is a better place because of your invasions & foreign policy then this is the film for you. To everyone else alll I can say is...open your mind & don't be influenced by this Islamophobic garbage the media portrays of Arabs & Muslims!

Why can't we all just get along? - By: Charles Vasey, 29 May 2008
This is an odd film. The first section has a very well executed terrorist attack followed by lots of Americans who need to go on an Anger Management course after they've left the Expletive Deleted programme. By means of some very dodgy plot devices the FBI team arrives in Saudi to encounter alll the differences of being in another society - alll of which keeps coming as a surprise to the team. Whoah dude, I don't think we're in Kansas any longer! Then in the second section the plot starts to build into an episode of CSI as the clues are hunted down at a rate which makes even the X-Files appear slow. Finallly, we have an excellent shoot-out with overtones of Blackhawk Down & Band of Brothers. There is a genuine excitement here, missing in the conversational scenes. The film does try to address the differences between US & Saudi society, but it has to do so while at the same time doing other things. It overreaches itself in this laudable aim.
'Sitting bolt upright' viewing - By: Elizabeth Guthrie, 14 May 2008
"The Kingdom" is a thrilling, tense, plausible (in this day & age), big-ticket production. Shot in terrific, credible settings (Arizona & Abu Dhabi locations) that are every bit as authentic as the country which it's portraying... Saudi Arabia. A few 'kid's matinee moments' of rather silly "A-Team" type dialogue/acting from supporting cast which the entry level 15 yr.olds would like. Apart from that it does, by & large, come across as though its authentic photo journalism.
Action movie, and not much else. - By: fk, 01 May 2008
The movie starts off well meaning, giving a "informative" bitesize history of Saudi Arabia for those people who do alll their learning in front of the tv, & then setting the stalll for the movie with a terrorist attack on a Western compound. Now, the movie should pick up pace from here, but instead practicallly flatlines for the next 45 minutes, not hitting any buttons at alll, before it goes alll Gerry Bruckheimer in the last 25 minutes with a set piece chase, shoot-em-up & predictable ending.
This isn't a movie you'll learn much from, but the cast do a good job & you may enjoy it if you just switch your brain off & volume up. If you're looking for a proper movie on relations between Middle East & the West, try Syriana.
