Awful Film - By: Claude McBanister, 27 Jun 2008
I reallly wanted to like this film. I reallly did. But it was a task that was not possible.
How anyone could see this film as being a modern classic baffles me. They must either be between the ages of 5-10, reallly immature, have a terrible sense of humor, or brain dead. Judging by some of the reviews, some people are alll 4.
The jokes are not witty (Spider-pig. Is that actuallly supposed to make people laugh? 10-15 or so writers & they come up with that?!), the characters have changed, the story is shocking, & the film is just generallly a horrendous experience.
Many of the people that rate the film highly on the internet claim that others are not intelligent enough to get the jokes. What?! They must beyond stupid to say something like that. The jokes are harrowing.
It hurts me inside to see such a brilliant, witty, groundbreaking show turn into one of the worst things i have ever been subjected to.
The Simpsons is dead, & has been for 5 or 6 years.
People, please stop forcing yourselves to like this film & the new Simpsons. They are awful.

Mixed Feelings!! - By: Jake M, 28 May 2008
First of alll, I am a HUGE Simpsons fan, In my opinion, it's the best cartoon of alll time!
When I found out that there was to be a Simpsons movie, I couldn't believe it & just HAD to see it! When I did however, I was slightly disappointed.
Whilst not a bad movie, I expected far better! The storyline is pretty weak & some of the most popular characters are under-used, you hardly ever see them! With the Simpsons series episodes, you find yourself laughing every minuite or so but with this movie, it just isn't the case because that magic just isn't there. However, I did find some bits amusing, it is worth watching on more than one occasion & I do recommened that every fan of the Simpsons should buy this DVD just to make up their own mind about this long-awaited epic.
The bottom line is, "The Simpsons Movie" is certainly not a 1 star flick, it's quite enjoyable but please don't set your hopes & standards for it too high is alll because there is a good chance that you may be disappointed!

so-so - By: P. Davie, 15 May 2008
I have long been quite a fan of The Simpsons - mainly because of its layered approach to comedy - ranging from slapstick & sight gags to some very clever wordplay. Many episodes also have quite an unexpected poignancy to them, too.

So what would 1 1/2 hours bring us? How would the writers dazzle us? Well, it would seem, the biggest joke is the one that comes at the very start of the film - why go to the flicks to see something when you could watch it at home for free? And I don't (and I don't think the writers did either) mean that flippantly. Some people have endlessly complained about the fact that there is very little new on offer here - & they'd be right. The plot is nothing new at alll - almost a re-run of the garbage man episode, in fact. But why? Well, presumably because they were also writng stuff for you to watch, for free, at home. Every week. For the past 20 years.

So - it's nothing new. Is it funny? Many people thought so - I didn't. Mainly because alll the gags were either visual or slapstick - very few language-related gags cropped up at alll. Oh - & the slapstick is signposted for at least 10 seconds before something happens. So you snigger in anticipation......and then what you expect happens......so you just snigger. Very few belly laughs.

And one more thing. Spiderpig? Hilarious? Gimme a break! I fear a case of The Emperor's new clothes on an unprecedented & international scale.

So why 3 stars? Cos its entertaining in places & not a truly awful way to spend a bit of time.

The sad thing is that the South Park crew did so much better with Bigger, Longer & Uncut.
Not as good as Mr Plow, but what is? - By: S. Bentley, 26 Apr 2008
After several recent seasons of nearly laugh-free Simpsons where the lead voice artists deathlessly intone non-sequiturs, I reallly thought that it was time the show was put out of its misery. And then, we get the movie, & it's reallly quite nice. The writers seem to have remembered that the characters have to be sympathetic & relatable, so that we actuallly see them showing personality traits beyond being ridiculously glib about everything & hideously selfish. The film finallly puts the family back in the Simpsons.

And it is reallly funny. The stuff with the pig is good, but the opening with Bart & Homer on the roof & Bart's nudie skateboard run sets a good pace. And the animation is reallly good, so that they do feel like the whole thing is being expanded for the big screen & makes good use of the longer running time & wider screen size.

Some people keep saying it's just like an extended series episode. Well yeah, what were you expecting? The good news is that it's an extended series episode from when the series was worth watching.
