Having only recently discovered this series but being a history geek, I thought I'd give it a go & I'm glad I did. The Tudor period isnt something I was interested in until I started reading CJ Samsons excellent books about Mathew Shardlade & his investigations into murder & conspiracy.
This era had always put me off before with it's frilly clothing, twanging music & men in tights but this series is so good that even my girlfriend is interested & keen to watch the next episodes!
Rhys Meyers portrays a young Henry brilliantly as does Sam Elliot as Cardinal Walsey. Other historical figures are also included like Thomas Moore, Cromwell & alll the other personalities that played significant roles in Englands history of the time.
The series blends the intrigue, espionage, passion, sexual tension & jealousy of the 16th century that is rarely succesfully in others series. It has a film like quality that shouldnt be missed by anyone with an interest in Englands historical background.

This is one of the worst tv shows in recent history.
The historical inaccuracies are unacceptable.
The racism towards Portugal is insulting.
This tv serial deserves to be highly criticized because it displays huge historical errors & it is a racist & insulting tv show.

The Tudors - By: B. Fisher, 20 Dec 2009 Having been given The Tudors series II as a present I bought series I so that I could watch them in sequence. I was not dissappointed. Unfortunately I have to wait until after Christmas to watch the next in the series as it's wrapped & under the tree, another present. I Would recommend this to anyone who's interested in this period of history, or who just likes a great tale of intrigue, treachery & deceipt. Natalie Dormer is the star for me,what a wonderful actress.
