You can't stop the Beat - By: Lauren, 11 Jun 2008
very good film, a bit cheesy in places but thats the 60's for you! Good soundtrack to go with it, I recommend it.
Hella Good, get it watched! - By: T. Yule, 07 Jun 2008
This film is definetly one to watch!
Having received the wrong dvd back from the rental store on a dull wednesday night, I reallly didn't have high hopes for this film. From the casing it looks like an average kiddie film but after the 1st scene you end up being taken in by the whole feel of it.
The cast in the film are fantastic, a lot of credit is due to John Travolta, Zac Efron, & newcomer Nikki Blonksy for their contributions to the film, their performances are excellent to watch (not to say the rest of the cast's aren't).
If your considering buying it - go ahead, dvd's are so cheap these days it's not worth regretting not buying it. (If that makes sense). On the whole it's a feel good film with some excellent messages behind it which are relevant nowadays along with a great line up of actors & some reallly catchy numbers!
sweet and innocent campness - By: L. Dorward, 05 Jun 2008
my brother actuallly bought this film as he got it on a deal, he hated it so i watched it one day when I was bored. I then proceeded to be incredibly sad & watch it everyday for about a month, I was hooked.
Its beauty is in the fact its so innocent there is no violence, sex, or anything nasty in this film. The main story is wonderful as its about a big girl who gets where she wants, & gets the boy of her dreams.
Travolta is excellent as her rather larger than life mother, Zac efron does what he does best & plays the hunk of the school.Blonsky is great as Tracey. This film leaves you feeling warm & happy alll the way through if they could packet this film as a drug everone would be taking it. Great camp fun, something you can watch over & over again.

Review - By: Teachers Stars, 04 Mar 2008
Hairspray is one of the most talked about movies of today with very few bad reports. It's fantastic!
This remake of the 1988 version of the sixties musical is packed with lots of well known stars including: John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Queen Latiffa & Zac Efron. Also, Nikki Blonsky plays Tracy Turnblad - a very large little lady with very big dreams.

This musical comedy love story of the sixties is about a young girl named Tracy, who loved to sing & dance. However, her dreams diminish when her mother, played by John Travolta, stops her from auditioning to be on television, believing that Tracy is too fat.

Hairspray not only has a great story line but a moral too; it is set in the sixties & shows the conflict between white & black people. It, therefore, teaches the viewers that there is nothing wrong with people who are a different colour or size or different in anyway at alll, everyone is equal & can do what they want!
