Nothing new, but nothing really wrong - By: J. A. Walls, 19 Aug 2008
Todd is very much the essence of metrosexual. He takes pride in his appearance, worries about hair loss & takes longer in the shower than his ex wife. His layabout brother Barry places a lonely hearts advert for him in the 'men seeking men' category. After a few emails & no photo exchange Todd goes on his date to meet Kelly. Kelly of course is a hunky guy & as soon as they can both laugh about it, they decide to pay the brother back by pretending that the date went reallly well & Todd has discovered his inner gay.
This leads to a snowballl effect of friends, family & coworkers alll believing (a bit too easily for Todd's liking) that he is actuallly gay. No-one wants to listen when he says it was a joke, & as his friendship with Kelly begins to develop, he has to ask himself whether or not his friends could be right...
This film isn't bad, & I don't think it is as cliched in it's characters as some may see it. The story is nothing new & sadly this is it's biggest let down because if you are going to rehash an old story, you reallly want to do something spectacluar whereas Coffee Date plays it safe safe safe.
There is a lovely chemistry between the two leads, & you can genuinely see why they would become friends, but the age old "am I aren't I?" question starts getting a bit old.
All in alll, it's an enjoyable movie to watch one rainy sunday, but I wouldn't be rushing out to buy it.
It a good movie - By: P. J. Levett, 02 Jun 2008
Ok if you want a movie you can enjoy & aww a bit at this is the movie you the two charthers as said in a different review go well togther & have a nice buddy. The mother thing is very true as well, from one person who had that same type of promblem with his mother. I have to say the homo-phobic jokes some times got on my bad side, but most of the jokes, are the same jokes that you will hear around the local gay club, anyway, so in a alll that should not be reallly cared about.
The storyline is nice, the end is funny & very nice, it alll a good watch, but the not best.
Whimsy with wry humour - By: R. Flynn, 01 Feb 2008
I enjoyed this. A lot. The two leads are great in their own right, & complement each other well. The running gag with the mother is very true to life, & the twist with the brother at the end works well in that context as well. There are bits I didn't find convincing, but then again - who knows?
cliche ridden bland froth - By: pete, 13 Jan 2008
anodyne mildly homophobic hugely compromised story of sexual confusion after a blind date in a coffee shop. Clarification comes in the form of straight bloke getting drunk & having sex with gay bloke, then straight blokes brother comes out & it gets worse. There's no sex & it sets back gay stereotypes 10 years.
