pure genius....sandler is superb! - By: Gayle Davey, 03 Sep 2008
I like Sandler's comic movies as well as the next person but was astounded by his portrayal of a greiving husband & father...he truly surprised me. Think I cried, laughed & was horrified alll in one sitting. I've bought this film for myself but also for people I like & know will get the message it sends. If you don't see it you'll have missed out. Pearl Jam theme is fab too!
Sandler shows he is not a 1 trick pony - By: ALEX FLETCHER UK, 02 Aug 2008
AT FIRST I THOUGHT THIS IS TO SLOW & NEARLY EJECTED THE DVD AFTER 10 MINUTES. I STUCK WITH IT & FOUND IT TO BE AN ABSORBING MOVIE. VERY MOVING,SAD IN MANY PLACES. THE NIGHT TIME SCENES ADDED TO THE LONELINESS OF CHARLIE ALONE IN A BIG CITY, IT ALSO HAS HUMOUR.WELL ACTED BY ALL OF THE ASSEMBLED CAST ALAN & CHARLIE HAD A CHEMISTRY THAT HELD THE MOVIE TOGETHER I WILL CERTAINLY WATCH THIS MOVIE AGAIN. Adam Sandler has broken away from his usual rom/com movies to show that he can be a serious actor too. It is not Henry v, but well worth a viewing.
Maybe Sandler's best performance to date..Lost 1 Star due to DVD cut. - By: Big Proof, 15 Jul 2008
This could be Adam Sandler's best work to date. Despite being internationallly known for his 'stupid comedy' roles, Reign Over Me shows that Sandler is more than as the token goofballl.

The only thing which was disappointing with the DVD release is that the movie had 2 scenes cut & its very noticeable, from the moment when he is in therapy with Liv Tyler's character, he is sitting there with his iPod to reading a magazine in a split second. The scene cut is a very powerful scene which explains even more the reasons why his character is always changing the layout of his kitchen.

This movie is a must.
Amazed - By: V. Smith, 01 Jun 2008
I watched this tonight. Initiallly I wasn't expecting to like it & didn't reallly think Sandler would pull off a performance that wasn't purely comical. However, after a ten minute test, I was hooked. This film made me laugh repeatedly with quirky one-liners & realistic banter yet Sandler was able to move me to tears at a couple of scenes, adding weight to the drama.

It is a good blend of realistic drama, dark comedy & deals with issues as varied as tragic loss, mental illness, friendships & family life.

I would definately recommend this - it deserves recognition for just how good it is (despite the fact it completely passed me by when it was realised).
Everyone needs a friend - By: M. A. Ramos, 08 Feb 2008
Here we see two men under very different circumstances need the same thing, someone to talk too. Adam Sandler plays a man who is emotionallly crippled by the loss of his wife & three daughters on one of the hijacked planes on 9/11. He has spiraled deep into isolation by his chosen path of mourning. While Don Cheadle's character has a very successful dental practice & great family, yet he is not able to communicate with either his partners or his wife.

These old college roommates meet by again by chance & renew their relationship. We share their emotional ride of ups & downs as they learn to communicate with each other as good friends do. And through this process they both gain their life back. I do not think that Adam Sandler may not have been the best casting choice for this movie, but he does well. Everyone else in this film did a great acting job. Especiallly Don Cheadle, Liv Tyler, Jada Pinkett Smith, Saffron Barrow & Donald Sutherland. This movie is worth watching & has a good soundtrack.
