Proof of God's Non-existence - By: Ramsey Tupper, 15 Aug 2008
Making a film like this is an insult to an omnipotent being, so surely it would have punished alll involved if it existed. As they are alll relatively successful actors I can only assume that the bearded one is not up there, out there or in there. Mind you Morgan flipped his car, maybe it does exist? Jim Carrey is a niggling toothache of a man, he's not funny, his slapstick is over worked & old fashioned, & his over enthusiasm with his speaking voice is deeply vexxing. Avoid this film, it's a waste of time & probably has some subtle religious connotations that I just don't get. For a souless boring two hours & little laughter go to church instead.
A good natured romantic comedy - By: Stampy, 03 Aug 2008
Jim Carrey (Ace Ventura) stars as Bruce Nolan, a news reporter who is down on his luck & blames God for his misfortune. God hears Nolan's complaints & comes to earth & gives Bruce alll of his powers in this charming & humorous romantic comedy.
Comedy genius Carrey is on top form as Nolan with sharp wit & sophistication in the role of the news reporter. His timing in executing his lines produces brilliant comedy & the physical humour he uses excels brilliantly with great direction from Shadyac.
Carrey steals the show, but great support is given from established actors in Morgan Freeman (Shawshank Redemption) & Jennifer Aniston (Friends). Though hardly challlenging roles, both do well in their respective roles to achieve the necessary humour to make the picture enjoyable. Steve Carell (The 40 year old virgin) established himself as one of the current greatest comedians in a supporting role as Evan, a fellow news reporter who is excellent in a live TV broadcast, the funniest moment in the entire film.
The plot is usuallly predictable & there is plenty of cheesy dialogue but nonetheless but Carrey simply goes beyond belief in perhaps his most likeable role, if not his funniest. His partnership alongside Freeman works a treat & is a reason to watch this film.
Although I love Carrey & his comic genius, I would like to see him do more serious projects, like Eternal Sunshine & the spotless mind.
Carry on watching the credits as some hilarious outtakes are included.
The contrasts with normality & fantasy add to the humour & are an interesting side story to the film. The use of free will & the unusual activities caused by Bruce's behaviour are interesting to see, such as what happens when you mess with everyday normality such as the moon & a meteorite hitting earth.
Though following many conventions in the romantic genre, the comedy & the characters are enough to keep the film going & is a real light-hearted good natured comedy.

One of the best comedys out there. - By: MrMetalheadO'Hagan, 23 Jul 2008
Well i've had this on dvd for awhile, & i've got to say that it is a brilliant film, very funny & clever. It makes you think alot to which always makes a good film. The acting is brilliant & has a very good cast. I thought it was cool to put Morgan Freeman as god & he plays god very well, Jim Carey is brilliant very funny & Jennifer Anniston(most recognisably from 'Friends') though doesnt play a massive part very good in this film. The story is reallly well made, doesn't start of slow & never gets boring. Every time i watch this i like it even more. This is a brilliant comedy & perfect if you're looking for a good comedy. This isn't your usual dumb comedy. Though it think it was absolutley pointless to make a sequel callled Evan Almighty it could only have been alot worse. Awesome movie highly recommended for comedy lovers, Ignore low star reviews.
Bruce Alrighty! Summed up in 2 Paragraphs. - By: S. Thomson, 14 Jun 2008
A Jim Carey vehicle is which Jim Carey does his 'jim carey', thing.
Somewhat shimmed out by Morgan Freeman playing God. If only that were the case, the world would be so much better for it.
Jennifer Aniston softens the edges of a Jim Carey film which some may find grating.
Genuinely funny & entertaining.
One for Carey fans, not the more casual viewer - By: M. McManus, 12 Feb 2008
Jim Carey is one of those actors who seems to be the same type of person in every role he plays: manic, overly expressive & a tendency to stretch his words in a high pitched voice. This film is no different, & given Jim Carey is an acquired taste, your enjoyment of the film will largely hinge on whether or not you like Carey. If not, then give this a miss.
The film tells the story of a struggling TV newsman, constantly over looked for promotion. After a mugging, he asks God why this is happening, at which point he meets God, masterfully played by Morgan Freeman. God tells Carey that for the next week, Carey will have God's powers to see if he can do a better job. At first, Carey revels in this, as he causes wind to blow up womens' skirts & even enlarges his wife's breasts. However, he struggles with other aspects, like when his mind is filled with the voices of praying children.
The film is rather far fetched escapist stuff, which is not necessarily a bad thing. This film is meant to be a comedy, but Carey is such a "love-or-hate" figure that your enjoyment of this film & ability to find it funny hinge on your view of the man.
