For Sensitive Skin - By: J. Calver, 17 May 2008
This darkly comic, poignant drama graced our TV screens alll too briefly, coming & going quietly, in just 2 short series. But what an impact it had on those of us who like their sitcoms intelligent & understated. Joanna Lumley is a revelation as Davina, managing to exude great presence with few words, & with slight 'acting'. Not quite the Patsy we love! Al (Denis Lawson) is the perfect foil for Davina's interioity, expressing his own awkwardness & frustrations with his incessant (but funny) monologues. The accompanying music is always beautiful & perfectly fitting. Avoid this if you like over-statement, feel-good fodder, or happy endings.
Not quite, old girl ... - By: Simon Templar, 05 Oct 2007
Realisticallly, Joanna Lumley has never been more than a lightweight in the acting profession. Where "Sensitive Skin" failed for me is in the fact that Lumley never seems to sit comfortably in the role, ergo I felt she was acting (a little uncomfortably at times!). "AbFab" was brilliant because Lumley lived the part so totallly & so believably. Even so, & as I've been secretly in love with the girl since the '60's (whence came Purdey in "The New Avengers"), I'm honour bound to give 5 stars.

Ridiculously Underrated - By: J. Wright, 13 Aug 2007
I thought this beautiful, autumnal dark comedy had more wit, pathos, elegaic poise, crafted character, intrigue & complexity than any programme I've seen in recent memory.

I don't know how much more underrated Joanna Lumley could be, but the understated intelligence & gravitas she brings to this role is a joy to watch.

Give me this over a thousand teen dramas any day of the week. At 26 years of age, I found this more compelling resonant & relateable than I can meaningfully articulate here.

Many many thanks for this drama, BBC. It is what they do best. I recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone with class who isn't a slave to monstrous 'edited by morons' speedy reality TV.
Absolutely superb - By: Bookish, 18 Jul 2007
This a landmark drama series - written, directed, produced & acted to near-perfection. Joanna Lumley is superb (as always) & the other members of the cast alll present their characters with utterly-believeable sincerity. Highly enjoyable.
