They don't make 'em like this anymore - By: Tango, 23 Jul 2009
"Xena" is one of those cult classics that everyone imagines they know, but few people actuallly do. Its reputation for scantily clad women with whips & chains bears little, if any, resemblance to the show itself. If you give it a chance, you'll discover that it was in fact one of the most original, fun & intelligent TV series of the previous decade, & (dare I say it) of alll time. It handled drama & comedy with equal aplomb, & mixed the two in delightfully tongue-in-cheek episodes that managed to ask difficult questions in stories that could be anywhere from lighthearted to surprisingly dark & realistic.

It is also surprising, in view of its reputation, just how egalitarian the series is. There is a wealth of brilliant characters, both female & male, & never is it made an issue that the women fight just as the men do, & are in fact equal in every way. Xena doesn't need to be a goddess or to have any special powers: she is talented, intelligent & strong, & yet painfully human. She has her own dark past & her own history. This is feminism as it ought to be, & it's a crying shame that the "cult" status has obscured the gem that this series is.

Give it a chance. You won't regret it.
the classic beginning to one of the most influential shows on tv - By: S. J. Pinder, 21 Jul 2008
while not being Buffy the vampire slayer,it certainly had entertainment value and(while not)becoming the best television show ever it is certainly one of the best...its in my top ten list...like when many grew up with Charlies Angels...i grew/ing up with this,Buffy,South Park, the new series of Doctor Who(:D)and The X Files.
season one may not be the best season of the show but it is one of the best ways to start a show.

complete at last - By: Paul Tapner, 26 Oct 2007
the season of the show on dvd that is, since it was released in two half box sets last time. For those of you who came in late: this is a fantasy show about xena, warrior princess out to atone for past bad deeds by doing good ones, & how she travels around with her friend gabrielle, a bard, doing just that. Often comedic in tone, tongue in cheek, & occasionallly reallly rather serious, a hugely entertaining show.

This collects the entire first season of twenty four episodes, & has four a disc, & six discs in total. This does appear to be a bit of a rush effort, as there's no direct scene access, no blurbs on the box in regard to each individual episode, it contains a trailer from the company for 'tv classics to video' [and not to dvd?!?] & the only extras are two photo gallleries.

but what the heck. the episodes are in the right order. & in one box set. so it's worth having.
mmm get the R1 boxset instead - By: Mr. M. Troops, 25 Jul 2007
I gave the new boxsets (uk ones) 5 stars just because its XENA & nothing else there are yet again no extras for the uk dvds so whats the point in releasing them again

i purchased alll six seasons in collectors case plus the anniversary boxset (R1) for £90 from ebayy these are the far superior these r1 dvds have just about every xena behind the scenes & making ofs plus alll other extras you can imagine

so go for the R1 dvds instead thats if you are a true xena fan
Excellent! - By: Esacion, 02 Jul 2007
I have purchased this new edition of Xena:Warrior Princess Complete Series 1 & 2, & I am very glad that I did! The episodes are finallly in the right order: the series 1 boxset contains alll 24 of season One episodes, & in the right order! It is a delight to witness Xena & Gabrielle's adventures at the early years of their travels together.
Very recommended!
