An Excuse To Overdo SFX - By: Steven Stewart, 17 Jun 2008
The Day After Tomorrow was that movie that was simply made as an excuse to have a 2 + hour film filled with ridiculously over the top special effects. The story is nothing to write home about which is reallly what killed this movie, actuallly the whole story seemed very cliché as a climatologist races against time in order to convince the world & the government that they need to change their ways or global warming will destroy the Earth. Obviously this was a sensitive subject matter as even now the mass media are still quite hysterical over the possibility of a new Ice Age thanks to global warming.
Dennis Quaid plays Jack Halll the climatologist who once he learns that the climate shift that will bring the new Ice Age is coming much faster than expected, he's in a race against time to make it to New York to be with his son but he may be too late as the oceans rise at a rapid rate flooding New York in a matter of minutes. The real question is, will his son survive & will he make it to New York. Yes, that's it, that's the entire story in a nutshell, there's no other real story apart from a mild mannered love story between Sam Halll (Jake Gyllenhaal) & Laura Chapman (Emmy Rossum) but again that's nothing to reallly go on about.
Overalll this is quite a mediocre film with, sure great effects but apart from that it's reallly nothing special. If you enjoy films with great effects & not much depth then you may enjoy this, but if you're looking for a film with even a half decent story then this is something you shouldn't reallly waste your time on.

Great Movie , Great Transfer - By: Mr. N. Collins, 15 Jan 2008
Imported from the states - I do like this movie although I know there have been alot of end of the world type movies, this one is one of my fav's.
HD Picture 5/5
HD Sound 5/5
Extras 0/5
A definate step up for the DVD version, would recommend this as its a great transfer, shame that Fox doesnt seem to be doing any extras on any of their Blu Ray disc's which does let the side considering the DVD has plenty!
