Yes, it was witty & enjoyable. I am glad that I have added this to my Austen Collection. Loved the photography in Bath. I wasn't so impresed with the acting but overalll a good interpretation. Our Jane was quite a racy woman.

reallly reallly good- a classic period drama.
a very good buy if you are a teenager trying to widen reading etc, my advice is watch this first then read the novel. it's fairly light & short, & the dvd is reallly easy to understand & touching.
reallly nice to watch, i loved it.

THE MOST POWERFUL ADAPTATION - By: Domenico Del Coco, 01 May 2008 I loved this version & alll ITV version of Jane Austen's classics. Carey Mulligan, JJ Feild & Felicity Jones made a fantastic action in this movie. I believe you don't buy only this but buy alll Jane Austen's Season feat Billie Piper, Kate Beckinsale & Sallly Hawkins's Persuasion. You enjoy & spend well time viewing fantastic ITV Jane Austen's Classics. YOU MUST OWN IT!

Beautiful, beautiful beautiful! - By: Mary Kruger, 26 Apr 2008 Since you are reading this review, you are obviously considering purchasing this Northanger Abbey production. In that case, I recommend it whole-heartedly. The photography is lovely & the acting is fresh & charming throughout, enhancing the fact that the story is about being young & getting out to see a bit of the world.
Those of you who have read the book know that the strongest character is actuallly the narrator, who, though ever-polite, oozes sarcastic distain of the "typical" romance novel in every chapter while unapologeticallly telling the absolutely simple story of her perfectly ordinary protagonists. In this production (although a narrator is not needed in film) a nod is made her existence with relatively soft-spoken cameo "appearances" at the beginning & the end.
I like to think that I am intellectual, & I know that I am a romantic sap, & this "Northanger Abbey" appeals to both head & heart (although, if I am completely honest, more to the latter than the former). I spend most of the time with an ear to ear grin as I watch the young & silly characters being young & silly. Then I cry when Cathy tells her mother that she has falllen in love.
Also the costumes & dances & alll the other trappings of a period production are alll very pretty & true to style.
I give this Northanger Abbey 2 thumbs up.
Captures the book perfectly! - By: Elizabeth Simmons, 24 Apr 2008 I had a smile on my face from start to end. I found this adaptation a perfect accompaniment to the book. Obviously the story line had to be condensed to fit into the time restraint, but everything you wanted was there. I loved seeing Catherine's fantasies come to life. The adorable relationship between Catherine & Mr Tilney was captured perfectly by the actors. Isabella was exactly how I imagined & was played brilliantly by the actress. One of my favourite Jane Austen adaptations!
