Being a huge martial arts fan,I certainly admire Steven Seagal.He just doesn't get the credit he deserves from his films.I loved the fight scenes in this film.Its practicallly action packed alll the way.A bunch of bad guys invade Alcatraz,determined to get the whereabouts of a massive fortune in hidden gold,from a condemned inmate.They hold a visiting female judge hostage,the actual judge that condemned him to Death Row.Suprisingly,the inmate holds no grudges against her,and alllies himself with Seagal to fight for the good guys.The bad guys leader,Morris Chestnut,can be full of charm,but he is determined to see the job done.Nia Peeples plays one of the sexy bad guys(or woman!)I enjoyed her comeuppance.A very good action film,very enjoyable.
Seagal's last cinema release is a cracker... - By: R. V. Halward, 03 Jan 2008 This is just fabululous, mindless entertainment. Seagal, paired up here with Ja rule & Morris Chestnut engages in some prison-seige based hokum which is sure to leave you smiling.
Easily one of his best movies along with Under Seige, Belly of the Beast & Exit Wounds, here we see our hero trying to resue hostages on Alcatraz while undercover as a prisoner, not to mention stopping valuable information being extracted from a master thief about to be exectuted.
The whole thing rattles along nicely, Seagal appears up for proceedings & there's the ususal smattering of hilarious one-liners & beefy action set pieces...
It's never gonna be one for Golden Globe contention, but that's not why you'd buy this. It's a perfect 'Saturday Night In' movie, disengage brain & enjoy...
Noone does these kind of movies like Seagal, superb...
