Where do they get the money to make these movies? - By: mica, 21 Dec 2007
Where do these producers get the money to make these awful cheesy movies & why is Tyrese trying to ruin his career.
I'm not trying to say that Tyrese is Oscar material but he put in a decent performance in 'Baby Boy' & in 'Transformers' which he was very funny in.
I am baffled how Meagan Good gets work because she is so type cast it is ridiculous, she always plays the skinny temptress with the big mouth. Watch some of her movies & see what i mean, she played the same character in 'Biker boys', Stomp the Yard' & 'You got served', she even played the temptress in a few episodes of the fantastic comedy 'My wife & kids' before she was replaced by Donna Summers daughter. She pouts far too much, there's no denying she's attractive but i would love to see her play a different character.
Going back to the movie, it had a weak story line & no substance. I was waiting for 'The Game' to act. Larenz Tate was a total let down, i loved him in Menace to society & 'A man apart', he even put in a good performance in Asante's video.
I will never understand why Tyrese's character asked some girl he met a couple days before to look after his precious son, doesn't he have family or friends besides his cousin played by Larenz Tate.
I think Hollywood should stop churning out cheap forgetable movies like this & spend more money on blockbusters like 'Transformers' or 'i Robot' OR more money on good African American films like 'ATL'.
I wonder why Hollywood even bother putting this film together - By: Jenny J.J.I., 01 Sep 2007
Waist Deep was an OK piece of entertainment that got over on slick sets with high production values. The plot borrows liberallly from many pictures before it. It plays very fast & loose with the audiences' sense of credibility; the hero pulls off so many seemingly impossible stunts here that there is a major "oh suuuuure" factor here. In fact, if I had to sum it up in a few words, it would be "'Commando' featuring a black protagonist in a deep urban setting." Yes, I'm serious. Think about it: Larger than life muscular ultraman is retired from from his former life of violence & black ops; he is pulled back into that life when his child is kidnapped. On the way, the first woman he bumps into is dragged along into his adventures & eventuallly becomes his allly & a member of his family. Sound familiar? So things go pretty much 'by the numbers' here. Anyone who has watched action/adventure movies for more than a couple of years could chart every plot point & development in the story arc at least 10 minutes before it happens on screen.
The main attraction of this movie is the chemistry between Meagan Good & Tyrese Gibson. These two look good together & played off each other very well. Little else can be said about the other characters who are alll one-dimensional. Most of the cast are highly buffed up in a MTV kind of way, but the characters they play are as shalllow as a baking pan, & it's hard to work up too much interest in them, since you know exactly what they are going to do & say. Still everyone ( even Hunter Hill, kidnap little boy) is able to reallly 'act' at a professional feature film level, as opposed to most glamor figures who just project an attitude. Compare most of the actors here to some 3rd rate fluff piece like "Cradle 2 the Grave", & the actors here come off much better than C2G's department store mannequins. I admired Larenz Tate in a way even though he was stuck with the 'weak' 2nd banana role as Gibson's cousin. He put a lot of juice into his character & it kind of worked. He reminded me somewhat of the way that Colin Farrell will use his eyes & mouth to simultaneously project weakness & bravado. The role pretty much sucked, but he did his best to make it succeed, & many actors would have been much worse in the role. Kimero Lee Simmons also did a cameo on this which was sort of odd but suitable for her at the same time.
If your a Tyrese Gibson fan then this film will interest you."Waist Deep" is only worth seeing for an evening of undemanding entertainment, but not much more.
WAIST DEEP BUT NOT SINKING....... - By: Jason Thorne, 25 Jun 2007
I will say this was a very good film that most reviews shot down in flames. Mr Gibson who stared in Four Brothers was outstanding in this role his son was snatched he had 24 hours to raise 100k to get his son back from the bad guys it's that simple. As for Meagan Good if you want to see a stunning coloured girl look nowhere else she is amazing. Very good storyline brillant action to keep you interested to the end. This is well worth a slot in your DVD collection buy it..
