Accepted Passes - By: Steven R. McEvoy, 02 Apr 2008
The South Harmon Institute of Technology (S.H.I.T.) will become a campus you will wish to visit & revisit again & again & the following are the reasons why.
Occasionallly when you go to review something you are taken completely by surprise. Accepted is one such movie. Both the movie & the features on the DVD will be completely unexpected. I was expecting a frat party film along the line of Animal House or The Revenge of the Nerds series, & ended up with something closer to With Honors. The movie actuallly deals with some great questions - questions about personal integrity, traditions, growth & values.
This DVD is packed full of special features with something for everyone, such as commentaries, deleted scenes, gag reel, music videos & more. The best part of the fun is the self-guided tour of the campus. The virtual tour of S.H.I.T. takes you through the main sets, with mini commentaries on parts of the film that took place on these sets.
Justin Long & Lewis Black lead an alll-star comedic cast in a romp through University life, as if the students ran the show. The gag reel will have you on the floor laughing as the cast takes the jokes on & off screen to extremes.
The feature commentary with director Steve Pink, & stars Justin Long, Lewis Black, Jonah Hill & Adam Herschman is a barrel of laughs; they seemed to have as much fun commenting about the film as they did on screen during the actual movie. They spent time mocking commentaries on DVDs, critiquing scenes & joking with each other. Early on they say if you make it through the commentary you will need psychiatric help, & though that may be true for their characters & the actors themselves, the commentary is hilarious.
These & the other no-holds-barred bonus features push this DVD from being a renter to a purchase. This is a film you will watch over & over again. It will be great for impromptu movie nights & to put on when you want a laugh after a hard day in class, or after working on that paper that would just not be written. This film will help remind you why you are reallly in university & what is the real purpose & goal in life.
Pick up the DVD - it will bring you hours & hours of entertainment!

Probably better than you would expect, and if you're predisposed towards it then you should love it - By: Pete, 07 Jan 2008
This sounded alright, potentiallly great if well made. The reviews said it was terrible & it was quite obscure so I didn't notice it when it got released on DVD.
Having finallly seen it I have to say that it's great. It is middle of the road, & I can see how a lot of people don't like it, but it works for me. In the space of about three months I have seen it three times, which is a lot for me as I usuallly wait about a year before watching something again.
Justin Long is funny & likeable, although it's probably fair to say that he's not destined to be one of the great titans of comedy. If you get his style of humour then you should find the film to be very amusing, with seven or eight laugh out loud moments. Hopefully he will get more starring roles as he is good.
The rival jocks are a particularly non-threatening presence. Justin gets the girl from the jock far too easily. Maybe the makers were trying to skip some cliches of the sub-genre, but still, the cliche is there so they might as well have played it out in full.
The DVD has no extras which is odd for a comedy as they usuallly have ten or so minutes of good deleted scenes & alternative dialogue. Sometimes the deleted material is better than what gets into the film so I do feel annoyed that there isn't any on this DVD.
On a non-relevant side note it's interesting how "U-Mass" by The Pixies jumps out of the film soundtrack in a way none of the other songs do. Either it's just reallly well placed, or it's further proof that they are one of the greatest bands of alll time.
where are the extras - By: Mr. M. J. Bee, 04 Jul 2007
this movie is as other people have written, a fun, no brainer of a film. i enjoyed it, dont think i didnt but what i dislike about this dvd is the complete lack of extras. many reviews(on other sites) & interviews with cast & crew go on about the extras. in fact many reviews stated the extras were the best part of the dvd.
but there arent any. none what so ever.(unless you class subtitles as extras-which some dvd releases do!)
like the film, disappointed by the dvd
[3.5]--Far from perfect, but nowhere near ruins - By: Jenny J.J.I., 25 Jun 2007
This movie said so many things I've been rambling about for over a decade. The American education system is absolutely .....not that great. College is a joke & the make believe college that Gaines creates appropriately abbreviated is reallly a decent movie. It does make you want to go out & do something you've been wanting to do for a while.
Enter "Accepted," directed by John Cusack pal Steve Pink & led by the likable Justin Long (the smart nerdy kid in "Galaxy Quest" & more recently featured in Apple computer ads), about a bunch of kids who don't get accepted to college & decide, as disclosed in the trailer, to fake a bogus one to get their parents off their backs. When they go a little too far with the website & other kids end up enrolling, the kids have a few problems to solve.
Yes, the film does feel familiar in some spots; there's a debt here owed, of alll places, to "Revenge of the Nerds." Those who are rejected by everyone else find a home with Bartleby & his cohorts, & of course the villains are steroid-enhanced conformist Master Race types who run a fraternity & seek to humiliate & bury the oddity for the - gasp - crime of being different.
But that aside, "Accepted" has fun with the material, & even asks a few decent questions about the expectations on college kids & the course of higher education. Not that it's a brain teaser by any means, but Accepted isn't just another mindless teen comedy (or Owen Wilson vehicle). While not a great departure from its genre, it's intelligent enough to be an enjoyable movie.
one of the best films i've ever seen - By: R. J. Bennion, 16 Jun 2007
If you like your american teenager films, this is the best one which will make you laugh & be happy, & also make you think..'why can't i go there..?'. Even if you don't enjoy american teenager film, i believe you will find this quiet a good film.
This film has so many funny parts, & you can reallly relate to what the characters are going through & doing throughout this film. Such a great idea of a film which works reallly well.
The idea of the film is about a guy who is constantly rejected from colleges, along with his friends, & not to disapoint his parents, they lease a building, & pretend its a real college, & things are going reallly well, until they find out more people have applied.
Reallly Good Film
