hilarity - By: hellrazor-7, 07 Apr 2008
larry & his mate bimbo love their pints, larry hasnt worked in ages but insists he doesnt like doing nothing but bimbo is devastated to be let go from his job after 25 years. used to unemployment larry does his best to cheer up his best mate be it on the golf course or in the pub.
bimbos pay off from his job isnt what he wanted but they stagger through christmas & before long bimbo has bought a horrendous van & attempts to go into the chip van industry with larry as his partner. this was set around the time of italia 90 & with ireland in their first world cup bimbo & larry try to cash in & do so big time. as the world cup adventure sees ireland get to the quarter finals larry & bimbo rake in the money but soon their relationship becomes tainted.
larry hates bimbos wife & with bimbo bossing larry around & larry unhappy with this the relationship seems doomed. the purchase of an engine is then rendered useless when they serve one customer at the beach a battered nappy.
a night on the tiles does little to bring the two together again & soon nails are being driven into the coffin of their friendship. bimbo is unhappy that larry twice hired one of his kids without permission. larry also joined a union further annoying bimbo & after a horrendous visit fro mthe health board bimbo is faced with the heart breaking decision. does he bin the van for a life of unemployment or does he leave behind the best mate hes ever had?
although that may sound tragic, in truth the story behind this is just hilarious.
a must!
A Classic Roddy Doyle Film...A Must See - By: Mr. J. P. Fletcher, 26 Oct 2007
If you have heard or better seen the film The commitments then The Van is another Roddy Doyle must see film. One of the funnist irish films you will ever see. Great cast, fantastic story line & wonderful scenery to boot. A tipical Roddy Doyle that deserves no introduction.
