Some things never change... - By: Susan J. Hayward, 02 May 2008
Follfoot was an intergral part of my teenage years. Having read the books I devoured the series & yes - predictably - fell in love with the moody enigmatic Steve. I wanted to BE Dora & I envied Gillian Blake so much I almost hated her at times! So how do you go back to memory like that? The answer is, with great trepidation. I treated myself to the current two box sets after skirting around the matter for months;what if it was awful? What if I hated it? God, I wish I'd bought it sooner! I can't give high enough praise for this series & in an age where kids TV is either peurile or skewed it brought back how much kids programming used to do for youngsters. Yes, the plots are somewhat simple & idealistic at times but the characters where real, there was no simple black & white answer to anything. I loved going home to Follyfoot & I can't wait for the third heartbreaking series to be released.Buy it enjoy it & if you can read the books - they're alll brilliant.
Follyfoot revisited - By: Jake10865, 03 Sep 2007
Like other reviewers have commented, this series has aged extremely well. Even the pacing of some of the stories is not as slow as other shows of the same period. If you fondly remember Follyfoot from your childhood, you are in for a treat. Even the Yorkshire TV idents at the start of each episode are still there.

The only downside is the quality of the picture. The film is quite scratched & speckled in places. However, given the limited audience for DVD's such as this, Network are to be commended for releasing it. If this is the only way to relive this classic show, I'll take it !!
Such a relief ... - By: M. K. Briggs, 26 Aug 2007
As an impressionable teenager, I absolutely adored "Follyfoot" & have remembered it with great fondness ever since.

When I found out that the first series had been issued on DVD I had very mixed feelings. The current trend for reissuing "classic" TV series means that I've revisited several programmes I had loved as a youngster, only to be disappointed by terrible production values & worse acting.

It was, therefore, with considerable trepidation that I ordered "Follyfoot", but so powerful were my memories of it, that I simply couldn't help myself.

I sat down to watch the first few episodes last night & it was an enormous relief to discover that Follyfoot was every BIT as good as I remembered.

From the unforgettable title music to Desmond Llewellyn's "Colonel", via Arthur English's wonderful Slugger & the young leads - it doesn't seem to have aged.

Worth every penny.
FOLLYFOOT - A MUST HAVE TIMELESS CLASSIC - By: Barney, 04 Jul 2007
This box set two DVD, contains alll thirteen episodes from series one of this fondly remembered, award winning drama. Filmed entirely on location in the stunning Yorkshire Dales, this series was originallly made to appeal to the teenage market, but quickly became a firm favourite with alll ages. With stunning locations, & acting of the highest possible standard, the reason for its success was that people could identify with the characters, & the sensitive & heart-warming storylines. The stories centre on "Dora" - superbly played by Gillian Blake - a sad & lonely girl, who goes to stay at Follyfoot Farm - a rest home for retired & ill treated horses. The drama follows the adventures of Dora, Steve (Steve Hodson), Ron (Christian Rodska) & the Colonel (Desmond Llewelyn) as they rescue & give a home to horses in need, as well as facing up to their own personal problems. "The Lightning Tree" used in the title song, refers to the beautiful tree in the stable yard that was struck by lightning, which Dora is convinced will grow again one day. This theme song introduces each episode, & there is stunning use of incidental background music used throughout each episode. For people who remember the original series, this box set will exceed alll your memories & expectations, & for those new to Follyfoot - what a treat you have in store! There were three series of Follyfoot - a total of thirty nine episodes - so cannot wait for the next release.
A RURAL CHILDRENS ADVENTURE SERIES FROM THE 1970'S - By: NEO, 18 Jun 2007
Follyfoot is a series which now has a cult following if the dedicated fan websites are anything to go by. It centres around a Horse sanctuary named 'Follyfoot' which is run by a well off Colonel played by James Llewellyn better know as 'q' from 007. But the action comes from the adventures with the horses & Dora played by the not so innocent looking Gillian Blake. She is a well off Poor little rich Girl who is taken in by the Colonel as her rich folks move abroad for a year. She is joined by 'Slugger' played brilliantly by Arthur English better known for 'The Ghosts of Motley halll' of the same era. This is a gentle series which is now quite dated but far better then more modern series of this type. It's very much a 'Girls Own' series (sorry to sound sexist) as it's alll horses & romance with some horse rustling thrown in !. This is the first time this series has ever seen Dvd so it's a definate must buy for the fan. There were 39 episodes made over three series in alll which might just get issued ?.
